Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

LER TechForce, LLC seeks a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer in Columbus, Indiana, and various unanticipated worksites throughout the U.S. Duties include coaching, mentoring and training entry-level Mechanical Design Engineers; collaborating with vendors to develop mechanical components and assemblies; conducting gap analysis between existing product functionality and features when compared to competitors' equipment and end user and customer needs; developing process improvement and implementation plans; reviewing accuracy of product documentation; evaluating product nonconformance and recommending design modifications; analyzing new and existing materials and methods to solve design challenges; researching design options and performing experiments to determine potential design feasibility or application; verifying alternate part source opportunities and identifying cost reduction opportunities; ensuring that equipment is designed, built and performs as designed; managing product technical lifecycle; performing root cause analysis (DFMEA) and error correction of system-level problems relating to design and production; performing risk assessment; suggesting enhancements to mechanical procedures and sharing lessons learned.
