Registered Nurse

A Registered Nurse is responsible for performing the nursing process as a basis for patient care. Registered Nurses provide direction and oversight to other licensed and non-licensed staff. They demonstrate compassion to recipients of services, coworkers, and surrounding communities. RNs show integrity, stewardship, empowerment, and a commitment to diversity and professional excellence. The Registered Nurse must demonstrate excellent customer service and enthusiasm for the program and organization. They assess patient care needs and develop plans of care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team. They continually reassess the plan of care according to patient needs. In collaboration with the physician, they provide and coordinate nursing care to individuals and groups. RNs assist in educating patients and families and manage the therapeutic milieu. They communicate with and educate patients and families about discharge and aftercare planning needs. Registered Nurses are responsible for providing a safe and secure environment for patients and staff. They document, report, and verify all necessary information according to established policies and procedures. They monitor and report potential risks to patient safety that could lead to adverse outcomes. RNs create a client-friendly environment by following quality improvement standards. They maintain professionalism and initiate positive relationships with departments, coworkers, and external clients. Registered Nurses provide care in various clinical settings with diverse patient populations. They identify specific patient needs and implement patient-centered, compassionate care. RNs function as clinical leaders and promote staff development. They are responsible for the utilization and review of patient care protocols and standards of practice. Registered Nurses may be responsible for training direct care staff. They may oversee medication and physical health activities in a program. RNs are required to uphold the organization's mission and values and present a professional image. They provide spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to patients. In residential settings, they support and promote a recovery-focused environment. Registered Nurses are responsible for maintaining annual training and demonstrating competency in required training. Other duties may be assigned as needed. May function as a charge nurse.
