The exact amount is set in accordance with Appendix B of the AWAAG CBA The AGO will pay the general bar dues of someone who begins their assignment on or before January 31st per Article 10.8 of the AWAAG CBA Flex schedules and telecommuting options A formal AAG mentoring program that complements the AGO’s inherently collegial and supportive environment Health and wellness program Training and career development program that is recognized for its excellence and efficacy by AGOs nationwide The Bob Keppel Criminal Justice Division of the Washington State Attorney General’s Office has an exciting opportunity in its downtown Seattle office for an attorney interested in supervising the Financial Crimes Unit. Duties We seek an attorney with significant litigation experience to lead and supervise the Financial Crimes Unit which consists of three prosecutors and three investigators. The selected candidate will carry a partial caseload and report to the Major Economic Crimes Section Chief. This attorney will work with attorneys, paralegals, legal assistants, and investigators as well as state, local and federal law enforcement and state agencies to investigate and prosecute financial crimes. The Major Economic Crimes Unit receives criminal referrals from any of Washington’s 39 county prosecuting attorneys or the governor. Cases prosecuted by this unit include wage theft, insurance fraud, tax fraud, complex fraud, elder fraud and crimes committed by government employees and public officials. While the primary focus of this position is prosecuting financial fraud crimes, the selected candidate should be proficient in prosecuting a full range of crimes. The selected candidate will work in downtown Seattle, but travel around the state for court hearings, investigations and trial preparation as necessary. Qualifications In addition to meeting the qualifications to serve as an Assistant Attorney General, preferred candidates will also possess: At least five years of trial experience and trial practice in criminal law; Strong supervisory and leadership skills; Exceptional legal research, writing and oral advocacy skills; Strong interpersonal skills that promote a collegial, inclusive and respectful workplace; Demonstrated good judgment when exercising discretion in criminal cases; The ability to work independently and in a variety of settings; Commitment to public service and justice for victims of crime around the state; Admission to practice in Washington state courts. The selected candidate is proficient in: Leading, managing, and mentoring a team of prosecutors and criminal investigators; Handling all phases of a criminal prosecution from charging to trial; Negotiating plea agreements under Washington’s sentencing guidelines; Drafting pleadings and other written communications to courts, opposing counsel, prosecutors, law enforcement and others; Defending convictions on appeal and representing the State in appellate matters before the Court of Appeals and Washington Supreme Court. Applicants must have graduated from a law school accredited by the ABA or completed the WSBA's Rule 6 Law Clerk Program and; be licensed to practice law in Washington State. (Applicants who meet the other stated qualifications and are actively pursuing admission will also be considered.) Supplemental Information This Managing Assistant Attorney General position is represented by the Association of Washington Assistant Attorneys General (AWAAG) / Washington Federation of State Employees (WFSE) AFSCME Council 28, AFL‑CIO. MAAG1 salaries are set between $88,056 and $164,940. The exact amount is set in accordance with Appendix B of the AWAAG CBA. Positions located in King County are eligible for 5 % King County Assignment Pay.
