Matheny is a special hospital for children and adults with medically complex developmental disabilities Mathenys mission is to provide exceptional care and an optimal quality of life for children and adults with special needs and medically complex developmental disabilities. Each patient has a primary nurse who coordinates all his/her care needs. Our nurses and nurse managers work closely with our paraprofessional care staff for on-going communication and teaching about each individual patient. We maintain close contact with families and acknowledge their importance as a valued member of the healthcare team.

Matheny currently has a career opportunities available for a Full Time Medical Trip Nurse for Monday - Friday, and on-call every eight weeks . Some flexibility is required for additional shifts. Qualified candidates who are hired for Full Time employment will receive a Signing Bonus of $10,000.00. ($5,000.00 payable after completion of six months of continuous employment and the remaining $5,000.00 after completion of twelve months of continuous employment).

Duties of this position include:

• Coordinates scheduling, preparation, and healthcare needs for patients while accompanying them on off-site medical trips.
• Reviews medical history and purpose of the medical trip with primary nurse and/or physician prior to departure. Ensures that appropriate supporting data or information is available such as X-rays, menses or seizure records. Ensures that referrals or prescriptions are available.
• Confirms patient identification to ensure correct patient is transported to medical trip.
• Documents necessary information in the patient’s medical chart related to the medical trip.
• Participates in patient's pre-operative planning meetings with the interdisciplinary team.
• Reports any incident during the medical trip to the Chief Nursing Officer. Completes incident forms for any injury which may occur during the trip.
• Consults with medical personnel during medical appointment.
• Demonstrates competency in providing emergency care.

As a Registered Nurse in a special hospital, performance of additional responsibilities that are not outlined in this job description may be required in an emergency situation. Additional assistance as a result of staff absences or shortages is also required, including additional weekend and/or holiday time.

The salary range for this position is $86,775 - $92,249 annually.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Qualifications/Education

• Associates degree in a related field from an accredited college or university required.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university preferred
• Experience working with developmentaly disabled patients preferred

Licensure/Certifications

• Licensed Registered Professional Nurse by the State of New Jersey Board of Nursing required
• Current Certification required.
• ACLS and/or PALS certification preferred.
• IV certification required preferred.
