Facilities Engineer I - SDF

We are hiring a Utilities Engineer to support the establishment of all utilities systems for the OFP site Durham. This role involves writing and reviewing system specifications, participating in design reviews, installing equipment, and overseeing commissioning, qualification, and SOP development. The engineer will also develop maintenance plans, provide training, and manage cost, quality, and schedule within their area of responsibility. All activities must be aligned with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) program requirements. Physical Requirements Moves equipment and supplies weighing up to 33 pounds; operates and inspects manufacturing equipment using hands; requires standing for up to a 12‑hour shift; may need corrected vision 20/25, color vision, ladder use, elevated height work, work around odorous or hazardous materials; may require latex gloves; work in cold environments, confined spaces, loud noise with hearing protection, outdoor weather conditions; must pass a driving exam for powered industrial trucks; no valid driver’s license required. Essential Functions Create and maintain system specifications for black & clean utilities Support all design, installation, commissioning, qualification, and training activities for black & clean utilities Provide additional technical support to project teams as required Adhere to all quality and environmental regulations within area of responsibility Support technical development of facilities technicians after handover to LOB Maintain and establish standards for procedures and maintenance plans Ensure all safety and environmental requirements are met in the performance of duties Other accountabilities, as assigned Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical, electrical, or chemical engineering or an equivalent combination of education and industry experience required If holding an associate’s degree in an engineering field, a minimum of six (6) years internal NN experience in clean & black utilities or similar systems required Two (2) years of engineering experience in a manufacturing facility preferred Knowledge and experience in operations, maintenance and design of cGMP utilities as well as working in a regulated environment (FDA, cGMP, OSHA) preferred Knowledge of black utilities systems including chilled water, plant steam, compressed air, vacuum and wastewater management an advantage Knowledge of clean utilities systems including process water, clean steam, process air, vacuum and cryogenic storage an advantage Ability to read and review design drawings (CAD) with basic understanding of P&ID, HVAC and electrical systems preferred Understanding of technical documents such as URS, SAT, FAT, validation protocols an advantage Understanding of complex product documentation and SOPs with attention to high‑level concepts an advantage Computer literacy with associated systems preferred Ability to plan, coordinate and prioritize activities to ensure optimal use of resources in the department preferred Equal Opportunity Employment We commit to an inclusive recruitment process and equality of opportunity for all our job applicants.
