Occupational Therapist (OT) Job DescriptionI. Purpose and Overall DutiesThe Occupational Therapist (OT) evaluates, plans, and implements individualized occupational therapy programs for patients in a long-term care or related setting. The role focuses on improving patients’ ability to perform activities of daily living, enhancing functional independence, and promoting overall quality of life.II. Essential Job FunctionsA. Patient Evaluation and Treatment PlanningEvaluate patients’ physical, cognitive, and functional abilities using standardized assessments and clinical judgmentDevelop individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, physician orders, and regulatory requirementsEstablish measurable goals and modify treatment plans as necessary based on patient progressB. Patient Care / InterventionImplement therapeutic interventions to improve patients’ ability to perform activities of daily living (ADLs) and instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs)Train patients in the use of adaptive equipment and compensatory techniquesFabricate, fit, and train patients in the use of orthotics and splints as appropriateEducate patients and caregivers on therapy techniques, safety, and home programsC. Documentation / Compliance / OutcomesComplete all required clinical documentation accurately and timely in accordance with Medicare, regulatory, and company guidelinesMaintain appropriate records of patient evaluations, progress notes, and discharge summariesEnsure compliance with all federal, state, and payer regulationsMonitor patient outcomes and adjust interventions to support optimal resultsD. Collaboration / Supervision / LeadershipCollaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate patient careSupervise and direct Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and support staff as applicableCommunicate effectively with physicians, nursing staff, and families regarding patient progressParticipate in care planning meetings and team conferencesE. Minimum Experience, Education, and LicensureMaster’s or Doctorate Degree in Occupational TherapyCurrent state licensure as an Occupational TherapistOne (1) year of experience preferredV. Essential Physical DemandsAbility to assist patients with mobility and positioning using appropriate techniques and assistive devicesAbility to stand, walk, and move throughout the workdayOccasional bending, reaching, or positioning of patients during treatmentAbility to demonstrate and assist with therapeutic activitiesAbility to use proper body mechanics in accordance with safety standardsVI. Work EnvironmentLong-term care or clinical settingAbility to travel to various locations where patients are located, including long-term care, short-term care, and private homes. This work will involve ability to enter and access buildings, work with patient in their existing space. Varying environmental conditions may be encountered while traveling.Indoor environment with occasional travel between patient areas or facilities as neededVII.
