Maintenance Director

JOB SUMMARY The Maintenance Director is responsible for managing and organizing the operations of the facility including maintenance and grounds keeping while maintaining compliance with all applicable codes, standards of government and regulatory agencies. Maintains all appropriate records related to proficiency testing performance and corrective actions implemented. Directs and monitors Help for Health compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards including, but not limited to Wyoming Department of Health, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Worker’s Compensation Health and Safety and the City of Riverton Building and Construction. Maintains records of all accreditation and certification functions, documents Worker’s Compensation incidents and is responsible for incident reporting to the State Department of Health. Manages the Environment of Care within the hospice home, Administrative Offices, employee transportation and within the patient home either directly or indirectly through employee training. This is a hands-on, PRN, hourly, non-benefitted position that requires the employee provide the majority of their own equipment including hand tools, meters and the means to transport themselves, infectious waste, and occasional large heavy, bulky equipment and furniture. The position requires the employee provide their own off-campus office space, personal computer, printer, document storage and cell phone. This position is responsible for 24/7/365 maintenance support to the hospice organization and one week per month providing 24/7 administrative support in addition. On-call is a non-compensated responsibility for this position. The ability to trouble-shoot mechanical, electrical, plumbing, structural equipment is essential. This includes the intrinsic ability to trouble-shoot and use engineering methods of design of experiments. When intrinsic knowledge isn’t available then the ability to know how to gain the knowledge is necessary to perform the job. TYPICAL DUTIES Is a member of the administrative team responsible for assisting in the guidance of all aspects of the organization. Must provide effective leadership. Chairs the Environment of Care Committee and attends other related sub-committee meetings as required; monitor the planning process and contribute ideas that will assist in effective management of the hospice. Maintains knowledge and remains current with reading blueprints and understand Life Safety Code, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards, Building Code and OSHA Regulations. Must have a working knowledge and ability to trouble-shoot and repair electrical, refrigeration, HVAC and plumbing issues. Must have tools/equipment and the knowledge to install and repair door and window hardware, wall-mounted equipment and decorations, repair door and wall penetrations, repair furniture and cleaning equipment. Plans, directs, and supervises all administrative and technical aspects of the Maintenance department. Facilitates communication between Maintenance operations and other hospice departments to enhance services Maintains services in accordance with standards established by the hospice, federal, state, and local standards and has working knowledge of authorities having jurisdiction of these standards Develops, reviews, and manages the activities of self and other personnel in the department Participates in all hospice committees which impact the Maintenance department with specific responsibility on the Leadership Committee, All-staff meeting and the EOC. Acquires supplies and replacement equipment. This includes shopping for best pricing and includes on-line and local acquisitions. Knowledge of accounts payable requirements is essential. Develops and implements documented preventive maintenance and monitoring programs for buildings, grounds, durable goods, furniture, refrigerators, domestic hot water and equipment including medical and transportation. Oversees work orders; plans repair priorities and trains/motivates all employees to utilize the process. Provide snow and ice removal of hospice home grounds. Responsible for weeding, mowing and landscaping grounds including maintenance of outbuildings, fences, irrigation system, barbecue area, outdoor furniture and water feature. Responsible for long‑term planning of preventive maintenance cost associated with facilities, equipment and grounds. Accountable for employee safety, building life safety, security, hazardous materials and waste (including infectious), facility utilities, equipment (clinical and non‑clinical) and emergency preparedness. Includes providing infection control. Medical and durable supplies acquisition, stocking and maintenance of out‑dates. Includes choosing suppliers for best pricing, delivery and service. Includes working with clinical staff to efficiently provide only what is needed when it’s needed. Direct Housekeeping in order to provide clean, comfortable and functional facilities. Includes all aspects of supervisory activities including hiring, training, motivating, etc. Direct/Implement/document Emergency Preparedness for all aspects of the organization. Includes attending local and state preparedness planning, conducting drills, coordinating efforts with federal/state/local emergency preparedness groups and documentation of efforts. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Ability to work in a variety of conditions including indoors and out, sometimes for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift and carry heavy, large equipment. Work on step-stools and ladders, on the floor, in hard‑to‑reach and awkward positions.
