Responsibilities In this role you will perform tests on specimens from Mayo Clinic, affiliated labs, and external clinics/hospitals. Performs analyses on blood, tissue, and body fluids to aid health care providers in the diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of patients. Testing performed in specialized laboratories may include manual or automated techniques. Instrument operation and maintenance, troubleshooting assays, evaluating test accuracy, interpreting results, and supporting testing operations. Retrieves information and reports results using multiple computer systems. Assists with specimen collection and works with minimal supervision. Adhering to safety protocols when handling infectious specimens, chemicals, and hazards. Produces accurate results under time constraints, multitasks, and works in a fast‑paced environment. Experience with laboratory instrumentation and assay systems is desirable. Demonstrates good communication skills and works closely with others. Accommodates scheduling adjustments, off‑shifts, holiday, on‑call, and weekend work. Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F‑1 STEM OPT extension program* Qualifications Graduate or student graduating within three months with a bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Technologist (CLT) – Bachelor’s in chemistry or a biological science such as Biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics. Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS), or Medical Technology (MT). Heterogeneous degrees recognized by NAACLS or a HEW certificate may substitute. Candidate must satisfy one of the following: Hold an MLS/CLS degree. Currently a contracted employee within the Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology seeking permanent placement. Current Mayo Clinic employee not in a CLT/CLS role. Former employee of Mayo Clinic. Former Summer Laboratory Science Program participant. Graduate of the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences Medical Laboratory Science Program. Additional Qualifications Resume Cover Letter Transcripts (unofficial copy accepted) or NACES detailed international equivalency for foreign degrees. Internal candidates must provide the past three performance appraisals. Exemption Status Nonexempt Compensation Detail $32.43 – $48.66 per hour Benefits Eligible Yes Schedule Full Time – 80 hours per pay period. Varies; training may last 2‑6 months before finalized schedule. Availability for off‑shifts, on‑call, and weekend work required.
