The University of Arizona Athletics Department invites you to apply to the role of the Nutritionist II. The Nutritionist II will provide clinical, food service and education/outreach services provided to optimize the health and performance of student-athletes. Primary responsibilities include individual nutrition counseling; team education; menu development; serving as a food and nutrition resource for coaches, athletic trainers, and sports performance staff; and maintaining professional competency and skills required for professional practice. This position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends, and travel as needed. Duties & Responsibilities Nutrition Counseling:
- Assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition, and energy balance ofstudent athletes in the context of athletic performance and health.
- Counsel athletes on optimal nutrition for exercise training,competition, recovery from exercise, weight management, hydration, immunity,disordered eating, travel, and supplementation.
- Provide personalized meal and snack plans to promoteachieving short- and long-term goals for athletic performance and good health.
- Meet with coaches and student-athletes in an individualizedsetting, provide nutrition counseling that will serve staff andstudent-athletes when they are on their own and not participating in a teammeal or snack.
- Develop and deliver nutrition education presentations, demonstrations, or events on various topicsrelated to nutrition for performance.
- Recommend appropriate pre, during, and post-exercise fluidsand snacks for individual team practice, and competition.
- Educate coaching staff and student-athletes on nutritionplans and why certain food or recovery items are needed during practices andcompetitions.
- Collaborate with food service provider to develop and manage team meal menus andcatering.
- Oversee nutrition for team travel (catering, hotels,airlines, competition).
- Develop and deliver nutrition education for food servicepersonnel during travel and while at home.
- Develop and implement an individualized plan for professional growthand development including participation in professional organizations andactivities, workshops, seminars, and development programs.
- Develop and implement all nutrition related medical policiesfor student-athletes.
- Budget accountability and additional duties as assigned.
- Fosters a collaborative work environment through respectfuland effective communication.
- Demonstrated organizational skills, including the ability toplan, establish priorities and successfully manage multiple priority projects.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positiveinterpersonal relations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively withindividuals at all organizational levels, and project a positive, professionalattitude.
- Knowledge of department related NCAA and Big 12 rules andcompliance.
- Ability to problem solve and make decisions.
- Ability to multi-task with frequent interruptions.
- Dedication and motivation to initiate, lead and supportvalue-added project.
- Lifting: Employees are frequently required to lift/move/transport up to 40 lbs.
- Outdoor Environment: Employees work outdoors and may not be protected from weather conditions.
- Extreme Cold: Temperatures typically below 32 degrees for more than an hour.
- Extreme Heat : Temperatures above 100 degrees for more than an hour.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent advance learning attained through professional level experience required.
- Minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- State licensure and registration required within six months of hire.
- Master's Degree.
- CSSD certified.
