Supervises: May coordinate and direct the activities of teacher assistants. Purpose: To plan, organize and present instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development. Major Functions: Management of Instructional Time – Prepare materials, supplies, and equipment at lesson start; get class started quickly; keep students on task; maintain high student time‑on‑task. Management of Student Behavior – Establish rules & procedures for routine matters, verbal participation, movement, monitoring behavior, intervening appropriately. Instructional Presentation – Review prior materials; introduce lesson and objectives; speak fluently; present concepts clearly; use examples, demonstrations, and tasks; ask appropriate questions; pace instruction appropriately; transition smoothly; summarize key points. Instructional Monitoring of Student Performance – Maintain firm standards and due dates; circulate during class to check performance; use oral, written, and other work products to assess progress; pose clear questions. Instructional Feedback – Provide feedback to encourage growth; give prompt feedback on in‑class and out‑of‑class work; affirm correct responses; probe or give clues after incorrect or no response. Facilitating Instruction – Prepare instructional plans aligned with school and system goals; use diagnostic information to revise objectives; maintain accurate records; align objectives, strategies, assessment, and resources. Interacting Within the Educational Environment – Treat all students fairly; interact effectively with students, co‑workers, parents, and community. Performing Non‑Instructional Duties – Carry out non‑instructional duties as assigned; adhere to laws, policies, rules, and regulations; pursue professional development and demonstrate growth. Additional Functions: Perform other related work as required. Minimum Training and Experience Degree in education or a related field that qualifies for licensure by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Minimum Qualifications or Standards Required to Perform Essential Job Functions Physical Requirements: Light work.
