A Day in the Life

Cranial and Spinal Technologies develops technologies and therapies used in neurosurgery, spine surgery, biologics, navigation, robotics, and enabling technologies that support patient care across a broad range of cranial and spinal procedures. This role is part of the technical publications function and is responsible for creating and maintaining Instructions for Use (IFU) and related customer-facing documentation that support the safe and effective use of advanced imaging products.

This position is based in Lafayette, Colorado, and requires an on-site work arrangement. Occasional domestic and international travel may be required, with expected travel less than 10%.

The Senior Technical Writer develops, maintains, and manages Instructions for Use (IFU) and related technical documentation for advanced imaging products. This role collaborates with engineering, marketing, regulatory, and quality teams to gather information, translate complex technical concepts into clear user documentation, manage document release activities, and coordinate translation projects supporting global product distribution.

Primary Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and update Instructions for Use (IFU), system manuals, quick reference guides, package inserts, technical bulletins, and software help documentation.
• Gather technical content through collaboration with product development, marketing, regulatory, and subject matter experts.
• Create and manage structured documentation using Adobe FrameMaker, XML authoring tools, and related content management systems.
• Manage document version control, archival activities, and documentation release processes within Product Lifecycle Management systems.
• Coordinate translation projects, including document preparation, tracking, review, and finalization with external translation providers.
• Review, edit, and proofread technical documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with quality requirements.
• Support cross-functional teams with documentation-related guidance and ensure documentation is available for product releases.
• Identify and implement process improvements that enhance documentation quality, efficiency, and compliance.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of technical writing or technical editing experience OR Master's degree and 2+ years of technical writing or technical editing experience.
• Advanced experience with Adobe FrameMaker.
• Experience with structured authoring, XML, and content management systems.
• Advanced experience with Adobe Acrobat, Adobe Photoshop, vector graphics software, and HTML.
• Experience creating technical documentation for global audiences.

Preferred Qualifications

• Technical writing experience in the medical device, scientific, or other regulated industry.
• Experience with Vasont Content Management System (CMS).
• Experience developing online documentation or software help systems.
• Experience managing professional translation projects and vendors.
• Experience supporting documentation activities in regulated quality system environments.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$84,800.00 - $127,200.00This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
