Classroom management Maintain order and discipline Create a positive learning environment Help students understand lessons Mentor and engage students Handle misbehavior and arguments Get and keep students' attention Lesson plans Review and implement lesson plans from the classroom teacher Present content prepared by the classroom teacher Help students with tasks School policies Comply with and enforce school policies and Observe and follow school policies. Take attendance by marking students as present, late, or absent Change attendance states Conflict resolution Quickly establish rapport and manage classroom dynamics Other responsibilities Record and grade assignments, Perform recess duty, and Maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment. Substitute teachers need to be able to quickly understand and implement lesson plans, and manage classroom dynamics. They also need to be able to fit into the classroom seamlessly in the absence of the full-time teacher.
