Grounds Keeper

This position is responsible for keeping the District's grounds in such a state of operating excellence that present no problems or interruptions to the educational program or District marketing ability.

This job requires:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Four years' experience in landscaping.
• AZ Driver's License and safe driving record.
• Knowledge of basic tools and equipment used in grounds work.
• Knowledge of repairing and maintaining hand and power equipment.
• Ability to lift and manipulate equipment and materials weighing up to 100 lbs.
• Safe operation of job-related equipment.
• Ability to work in an outside environment for entire shift.
• Ability to perform physical responsibilities as related to the job.
• Ability to relate to students, staff and public in a positive manner.

Responsibilities include:

1. Preparing seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil if needed.
2. Planting seeds, bulbs, trees, and shrubbery for attractive appearance.
3. Pruning trees and trimming hedges to promote growth and improve appearance and maintain line of site.
4. Inspecting flowers, shrubs, and trees for evidence of insects, fungi, and other pests.
5. Adjusting and repairing equipment such as lawnmowers, sprinklers, sprinkler timers.
6. Collecting and disposing of leaves, landscape refuse and other rubbish.
7. Operating equipment including, but not limited to, gator, front end loader, dump truck, towing trailers, turf mower.
8. Operating basic garden tools including, but not limited to, power edger, auger, post hole digger, rototiller, chain saw, work truck with lift gate and trailer.
9. Reading all label and job-related information.
10. Maintaining flood irrigation at district sites.
11. Understanding and applying safety-related precautions as outlined in SDS (safety data sheets).
12. Updating and maintaining drip and sprinkler systems, and desert landscaped areas as needed (weeds, trash, dead plants and etc.).
13. Contributing to the team by accomplishing additional duties as assigned.

Language skills include:

• Ability to read and interpret documents in English.
• Ability to write routine correspondence in English.
• Ability to speak effectively in English before groups of customers or employees.

Reasoning ability includes:

• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations/issues.
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written and verbal form.

Performance will be evaluated by Lead Grounds Keeper.

Supervised by the Lead Grounds Keeper. Exercises no supervisory responsibilities.

Grade B $16.53+ (DOE)

52 Weeks (split shift hours if needed) 40 hours per week / Benefits
