Position Function: The College of Veterinary Medicine, Mississippi State University, invites applications for an assistant/associate/full clinical professor in aquatic diagnostics and research. This position is located at the Aquatic Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (ARDL), housed at the Thad Cochran National Warmwater Aquaculture Center in Stoneville, Mississippi. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in the field of aquatic animal medicine and aquaculture production. Situated in the heart of the Mississippi catfish industry, the ARDL plays a pivotal role in providing essential veterinary services, including diagnostics, preventive medicine, and disease management for catfish and other aquaculture producers in Mississippi and surrounding states. Salary Grade : UC Please see Staff Compensation Structure or Skilled Crafts and Service Maintenance Compensation Schedule for salary ranges. For salary grade UC, these positions are "Unclassified" and salary ranges are determined by the hiring department. Area of Specialization: Aquatics Research Diagnostic Lab Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The ideal candidate will have a passion for aquatic diagnostics and field work, specifically on-farm problem solving. This position will allocate approximately 75% FTE to diagnostic service activities (clinical diagnostics and on-farm investigations) and the remainder to collaborative scholarship and teaching. Mississippi produces more than 65% of the nation's farm-raised catfish and each year the ARDL receives approximately 750 necropsy/water accessions, with 98% originating from commercial catfish farms. The successful candidate will actively collaborate with fellow CVM faculty as well as Mississippi Agriculture and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) and USDA researchers conducting investigations in support of catfish aquaculture. The successful candidate will also contribute to teaching on an invited basis. Minimum Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include a DVM (or equivalent degree) from an accredited institution. Attainment of a regular licensure to practice veterinary medicine in Mississippi is required, as is maintenance of category II veterinary accreditation. Rank will be commensurate with experience and qualifications, either in academia or clinical practice. Assistant Clinical Professor: Approximately 0-6 years of practice after residency or equivalent advanced training and has potential to develop scholarly achievements, research production, and/or teaching experiences. Associate Clinical Professor: Approximately 5-10 years of practice after residency or equivalent advanced training and has demonstrated a sustained record of independent accomplishment in clinical service, teaching, and scholarly activity. Clinical Professor: Approximately 10+ years of practice after residency or equivalent advanced training and has demonstrated sustained excellence and leadership in clinical service, teaching, scholarship, and professional service. Preferred Qualifications: We are seeking a team-oriented professional with strong interpersonal and communication skills, an inclination towards collaborative work within multidisciplinary teams, and the capacity to engage effectively with catfish farmers, industry leaders, and stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in aquatic animal medicine, fish health or similar fields, preferably in the context of commercial aquaculture. Those with demonstrated experience in aquatic diagnostics, including recent graduates with training in aquatic animal medicine, are encouraged to apply. Advanced degrees beyond the DVM (or equivalent), and/or board certification in a relevant specialty are desirable, but not necessary. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Excellent telephone and email communication skills, especially related to client service.
Must be capable of working in a team environment comprised of doctors, staff, and students to provide veterinary care of patients and aid in the instruction of veterinary students and veterinary technology students. Working Conditions and Physical Effort Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
