Job Description

The Bench Technician performs detailed repair, overhaul, and testing of electronic and avionic components in a certified FAR 145 repair station environment. This role follows the Repair Station Quality Control Manual, Component Maintenance Manuals, and all applicable 14 CFR aviation regulations to ensure components are accurately diagnosed, repaired, and returned to service in full regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot electronic and avionic components down to the component and board level using appropriate test equipment and documentation.
• Inspect incoming parts, verify their condition, and review supporting documentation such as FAA 8130-3 forms and Certificates of Conformance.
• Inspect, test, and troubleshoot assemblies and circuit boards to identify faults and determine appropriate repair actions.
• Diagnose, test, repair, and prepare products for return to service, including certifying the conformity of products in accordance with regulatory and company requirements.
• Ensure the quality and accuracy of work performed by non-certified technicians by reviewing and verifying their work as needed.
• Complete all required test results, teardown reports, traceability records, and return-to-service documentation, including 8130-3 and Certificates of Conformance when applicable.
• Read and interpret Component Maintenance Manuals, drawings, work instructions, and wiring schematics to perform accurate repairs and tests.
• Use standard electronics bench test equipment, such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, and soldering tools, to perform diagnostics and repairs.
• Perform precise soldering and rework on electronic components, wiring, and wire harnesses in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
• Apply general knowledge of FAA requirements for FAR 145 repair stations to daily work activities to ensure compliance.
• Collaborate with internal teams and, when needed, interface with aviation OEM documentation and requirements during repair and overhaul processes.
• Participate in recurrent training on at least an annual basis to maintain current knowledge of procedures, regulations, and technical skills.
• Maintain accurate records and documentation in electronic systems, using computers and relevant software for data entry, reporting, and navigation.
• Follow all established quality, safety, and procedural guidelines while working at the electronics bench and within the repair station.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 5+ years of experience in electronics or avionics installation and repair.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
• Strong ability to read and interpret technical schematics, wiring diagrams, work instructions, and electronic drawings.
• Proficiency in using typical electronics bench test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, soldering irons, and power supplies.
• Proficiency with personal computers and Microsoft Office products, including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Ability to read and understand Component Maintenance Manuals, drawings, work instructions, and schematics to perform accurate repairs.
• Solid computer and website navigation skills for accessing technical data and documentation.
• General knowledge of FAA requirements for a FAR 145 repair station and how they apply to repair and overhaul activities.
• Proven experience in troubleshooting electronics at the component level and board level.
• Demonstrated ability to perform high-quality soldering and electronic repair work.
• Associate’s degree in electronics or equivalent military electronics training.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Commercial or military flight avionics experience is preferred.
• Experience with emergency locator transmitters (ELTs) is highly desired.
• Experience reading and working from CMMs, technical drawings, and wiring schematics in an aviation environment.
• Experience in aviation electronics, avionics production, or bench technician work is beneficial.
• Experience working with wire harnesses, wiring diagrams, and wiring schematics.
• Familiarity with aviation OEMs and prior experience working with their components and documentation is a plus.
• Previous experience in an aviation repair station or similar regulated environment is advantageous.

Work Environment

This position is based in a FAR 145 repair station and electronics bench environment, working primarily with avionics and electronic components. You work Monday through Friday from approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., providing a consistent daytime schedule. The role involves regular use of oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, soldering equipment, and standard electronics bench tools, along with computers for documentation and communication. Work is performed at an electronics bench and within a controlled shop setting, following established safety, quality, and procedural standards appropriate for an aviation repair facility.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Lauderdale, FL.

The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr.
