The Corpus Christi Area Office is seeking a Transportation Engineer who enjoys a fast-pace environment to manage various construction projects in the area, ensuring contract work is completed on time and within budget allocations. The optimal candidate will be tasked with leading a team of construction inspectors and engineering assistants in the execution of project milestones and be an integral component of the success of the Corpus Christi Area Office.

Annual Salary Ranges:

• Transportation Engineer I (B24) - $75,487 - $106,634
• Transportation Engineer II (B25) - $80,704 - $114,099
• Transportation Engineer III (B26) - $89,755 - $129,430
• Transportation Engineer IV (B27) - $98,730 - $142,374

This position is for (1) Transportation Engineer I, II, III, or IV. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Minimum Salary: $75,487.00

Maximum Salary: $142,374.00

Position Description: Performs transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations and maintenance. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level follow standard practices that do not require frequent supervision of details.

Essential Duties:

• Transportation Engineer I: Assists in overseeing construction project traffic control plans; periodically reviews traffic control devices with Area Engineers. Assists in overseeing contracts, issuing work orders and monitoring construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects. Assists with design, computer operations and plan preparation. Coordinates and monitors assigned projects/programs/plans. Drives/travels to project/work locations to make on-site engineering reviews, analyses, tests and to provide technical support. Monitors contractors' compliance with plans and specifications. Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
• Transportation Engineer II (In addition to the above): Assists Area Engineers with construction contract administration matters. Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Updates, reviews, monitors, and reviews requests for changes to plans, manual and standard sheets.
• Transportation Engineer III (In addition to the above): Analyzes schedule trends, determines risks and recommends options to management for corrective action for complex projects Utilizes project management principles in initiating, planning, executing, monitoring, controlling and closing for complex transportation projects. Analyzes and assists in the resolution of contract problems and disputes. Oversees contracts, issues work orders and monitors construction schedules and contractor payments and job progress on construction projects.
• Transportation Engineer IV (In addition to the above): Conducts final inspections on completed construction projects. Monitors contract performance, evaluates contract deliverables, reviews billing documentation, monitors the consultant's compliance with the terms of the contract, and prepares and delivers a written evaluation of the consultant's performance. Performs highly advances and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Assist Area Engineers with constructions contract administrations matters.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
• Experience: Transportation Engineer I: 4 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience Transportation Engineer II: 5 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience Transportation Engineer III: 6 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience Transportation Engineer IV: 7 years engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent). Related graduate level education may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.
• Licenses and Certifications: Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. Licensed Prof Engineer* *Professional engineers licensed in another state in the United States, but not currently licensed in the State of Texas, must (1) meet the license requirements of the State of Texas Engineering Practices Act, (2) obtain a professional engineering license from the State of Texas within six (6) months of the date of hire, and (3) sign an agreement to that effect as a condition of employment.

• Transportation Engineer III (In addition to the listed above): Standards and specifications for bridges and other transportation structures Bridge construction and evaluation methods, procedures and regulations Cost Estimating and cost controls Negotiating settlement of differences without damaging relationships; applying effective questioning and listening techniques to determine other parties' positions in a direct and diplomatic manner. Speaking to present images and ideas in a clear, concise, organized, and interesting manner to optimize audience understanding and keep the group focused. Public relations for maintaining effective working relationships with individuals and groups, both internal and external Performing basic design and drafting
• Transportation Engineer IV (In addition to the listed above): Coordinating and directing multiple projects
