Company Overview Pelorus Elder & Behavioral Health is a boutique Geriatric and Adult Psychiatry practice. We have numerous skilled nursing and assisted living facility clients where we provide psychiatric services. Company History Established in 2009, Pelorus (recently rebranded from NJ Memory and Behavioral Care) is a boutique practice founded by Dr. Matthew Barnas, board‑certified in Geriatric and Adult Psychiatry. Dr. Barnas completed his geriatric training at Yale University and has held positions such as Associate Director of Geriatric Psychiatry at Overlook Hospital, Chief of Geriatric Psychiatry at Runnells Hospital, and Chief of Geriatric Psychiatry at the East Orange V.A. Dr. Unnati Patel, board‑certified in Adult Psychiatry, joined Pelorus in 2014 after serving as Director of the Psychiatry Consultation service at RWJ Somerset Medical Center and as Chief Resident of Psychiatry at New Jersey Medical School. We are growing and welcoming new clinicians, with several full‑time and part‑time opportunities available. Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner Position Description The successful candidate will be responsible for initial and follow‑up psychiatric consults in select assisted living and skilled nursing facilities. Daily patient encounters will range from 11 to 16, depending on the mix of initial versus follow‑up services. Only light clinical documentation is required—just initial and follow‑up progress notes. There is minimal bureaucracy or busy‑work: no H&P’s, no discharge summaries, no treatment plans, no treatment team meetings or rounds. We use streamlined, one‑page note templates which facilitate an efficient workflow. There are no hospital‑based services, no admissions, no discharges, minimal administrative responsibilities beyond the described clinical documentation and billing submission. Participation in our telephone‑based on‑call schedule will include about one weeknight per week and less than one weekend per month, with phone calls during on‑call shifts being infrequent. Daily work schedule is flexible, offering much autonomy while support and assistance are always available from our three psychiatrists and colleagues. Experience Experience prescribing and monitoring psychotropic medications is very strongly preferred, but we are willing to train the right candidate. PMHNP certification is required in Pennsylvania and is ideal in New Jersey (Family & Geriatric certifications are acceptable). Compensation We offer very competitive compensation – full‑time salary from $130,000 and upward (based on experience and résumé), with annual increases and available productivity bonuses. Options include full health benefits and a retirement plan for full‑time positions, 4 weeks PTO, 3 CME days with stipend and/or reimbursement for license renewals, and national holidays off.
