Surgical Technologist CVOR Cardiovascular Operating Room

Position Summary As a CVOR Surgical Technologist, you will select and place surgical instruments, supplies and equipment during surgery. You will scrub and provide instruments, sutures, and other sterile supplies during the surgical procedure. You will participate in the training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students, as assigned. You must be proficient in scrubbing in a minimum of two surgical specialties. The Cardiovascular Operating Room Surgical Technologist is responsible for assisting the physician with advanced tasks during surgical procedures, which include cardiopulmonary bypass/heart‑lung machine use, cardiac assistive devices, and vascular access and interventions. The CVOR ST must be able to work under high pressure in a fast‑paced environment. Employment Details Type: Full‑time Hours per week: 40hrs (Monday‑Friday) Shift: Day On call: Yes, weekend and holiday rotations required. Flat rate pay: $5/hr for call, $3/hour weekend shift differential and an 18% night shift differential, when applicable. Core Functions Prepares for surgical procedures. Pulls appropriate instruments and supplies and ensures they are in good working order. Reviews case carts for correct instruments and supplies. Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment and makes minor adjustments or calls biomedical equipment staff. Checks schedule and plans ahead for upcoming surgical case needs. Anticipates the surgeon’s needs. Passes instruments and retracts tissue. Maintains competency to scrub in a minimum of two surgical specialties. Demonstrates the principles of aseptic technique and universal precautions throughout the procedure. Disposes of sharps and trash and places used supplies into the case cart for processing. Participates in counting sharps, instruments and sponges. Prepares instruments for cleaning following each case. Ensures that all surgeon preference cards and pick lists are accurate. Assists with OR turnover between cases. Participates in stocking, replenishing supplies and cleaning operating rooms. Participates in or leads the training and orientation of surgical technology staff and students, as assigned. May provide business support to the department including administrative tasks. Follows safety procedures in regard to medication labeling, appropriate handling of specimens, appropriate handling of sharps, time‑out procedure, radiation and laser safety, infection control, assembling and disassembling instruments. Participates in emergency call rotation. Proficient to scrub on at least two surgical specialties. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma/GED and current basic life support certification. Certification as a surgical technologist and one to two years of experience in a surgical technologist role OR three to four years in a surgical technologist role. Where applicable must be registered with State Regulatory Agency. Must be able to scrub proficiently on a minimum of two surgical specialties. Position requires manual dexterity and the ability to maintain professional decorum in highly stressful emergent situations. Must be conscientious, organized, and orderly and be able to respond quickly to the needs of the surgeon and patient. Must stay abreast of new developments in the field.
