Lead AST, Flight Systems Training and Operations (Direct Hire)

Summary This vacancy is aimed at insourcing critical technical leadership skills. Roles may include being the technical lead over real‑time mission operations in the Mission Control Center, mission systems development, testing and integration, training and simulation, analysis, and other mission support functions essential to human spaceflight. Major Duties Serves as a Technical Lead in the Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) leading teams responsible for crew training, flight controller training, mission product development, technical analysis and mission operations. Responsible for ensuring that branch strategic plans, mission, vision, and values are communicated and integrated into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, and work. Leads the team in identifying, distributing, and balancing workload among employees; balancing between FOD or programmatic priorities. Coaches the team in the selection and application of appropriate problem‑solving methods and techniques as well as risk trades while striving for innovative, cost‑effective solutions. Serves as coach and facilitator in coordinating team initiatives, implementation, and coalition building. Reports to the supervisor on team and individual work accomplishments, problems, and work processes, including individual and team training needs. Coordinates and leads integration activities across multiple stakeholders to ensure alignment with mission objectives, policies, and Directorate priorities. Addresses complex organizational problems by setting goals and using innovative and original approaches to meet the planning needs of the missions. Performs periodic reviews to assess achievement of major goals. Education Basic Education Requirement: Applicants must have successfully completed a bachelor’s degree in one of the following categories: Engineering: a bachelor’s degree in an ABET‑accredited engineering program. Physical Science, Mathematics, Life Science: a bachelor’s degree in one of these fields. Social Science, Medical, or other related fields: a bachelor’s degree in a field directly related to the duties of the position. Graduate degree may qualify if the field aligns with the above categories. Engineering technology degrees are not considered qualifying for this position. Degrees earned within the United States must be from a college or university with at least one ABET‑accredited engineering program.
