Security Worker - 2026-2027 School Year

Salary: $19.50/Hour Minimum Bargaining Unit: AGCEP Contract Report Times: Varies Daily Hours: 8.5 (8 Paid) Work Year: 39 Weeks Supervisor: Director of School Safety and Security Civil Service Title: Security Worker Minimum Requirements Graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma. Experience as a security guard or security officer may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis. Special Requirements Current registration as a Security Guard with the New York State Department of State. If you are appointed, you will be required to have a valid license to operate a motor vehicle in New York State or otherwise demonstrate your capacity to meet the transportation needs of the job. Program Information This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). Titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, and you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you must meet the minimum qualifications. Within one year of permanent appointment, employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status. Desired Qualifications Previous work experience with students K-12. CPR/AED certification or willingness to be certified. Ability to work with groups of students, staff and public. Willingness to work additional hours as needed. Willingness to work an alternate work day schedule as required to support the educational program needs. Daily attendance is expected. Position Summary/Responsibilities Provides security for the school building and enforces security and smoking regulations. Works collaboratively with other safety team members to take action on the discipline and behavior problems of students within the school building. Builds relationships with students to facilitate student academic and social success. Works collaboratively with other security staff to quickly resolve any problems involving student safety. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. All new employees must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment through the NYSED before employment begins.
