Job Summary Become part of the Bemidji Veterans Home team! This position will serve as the Safety Officer for the Minnesota Veterans Home - Bemidji to implement, promote, coordinate, monitor, and evaluate safety and health programs. The position is designated as part-time and primarily day shift. The work schedule will include at least 64hours per 2-week pay period . Select Link Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Please ensure that your resume/application clearly describes your experience in the areas listed below and indicates the beginning and ending month and year for each job held. Two years of experience in the Environmental Health and Safety field which demonstrates at least two of the following: Maintaining and auditing safety programs Analyzing workers compensation data and/or identifying ways to mitigate risk Developing and/or promoting health and wellness programs Ensuring compliance with occupational health and safety regulations A note: A bachelor’s degree in safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management/Control, Occupational Safety, Safety Management/Science, Safety Engineering, or a closely related field may substitute for one year of experience. An associate’s degree in safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management/Control, Occupational Safety, Safety Management/Science, Safety Engineering, or a closely related field may substitute for 6 months of experience. AND The successful candidate must also demonstrate: Knowledge of occupational health, safety and environmental health regulations (for example, Occupational Safety and Health Agency (OSHA), Minnesota OSHA, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Minnesota Pollution Control Agency (MPCA), and National Fire Protection Agency (NFPA) regulations). Analysis and critical thinking skills sufficient to analyze information, develop and implement strategies to improve the safety and health of employees, residents, and other customers. Communication skills sufficient to write and present safety-related investigation and progress reports. Ability to implement and present training to individuals and groups of employees on safety and health issues. Preferred Qualifications Three or more years in the Environmental Health and Safety field as described above in the minimum qualifications. A bachelor's degree in safety, Industrial Hygiene, Risk Management/Control, Occupational Safety, Safety Management/Science, Safety Engineering, or a closely related field. Knowledge of Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), federal Veterans Administration and/or MN Department of Health regulations for healthcare settings. Experience working in a healthcare or long-term care facility. Experiencing conducting inspections, determining compliance, and enforcing adherence to OSHA laws and regulations. Additional Requirements This position requires successful completion of the following: A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for this position. When conducted, the finalist must pass the DHS background check. A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) Screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
