Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Shenandoah | Shenandoah, TX

Nexus Children’s Hospital – Shenandoah is seeking a Registered Respiratory Therapist to care for pediatric patients with complex respiratory and medical needs, including patients requiring intensive care and mechanical ventilation. In this role, you will assess respiratory status, deliver ordered treatments, respond to changes in patient condition, and work closely with physicians, nurses, patients, and families.

What you’ll do

• Assess patients on admission, develop respiratory care plans, and evaluate their response to treatment.
• Provide therapeutic and diagnostic respiratory care, including ventilator management and assessment of arterial blood gases, EKGs, and chest X-rays.
• Administer ordered respiratory medications and treatments.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and respond effectively in emergencies, including when another respiratory therapist is not immediately available.
• Educate patients and families and participate in care conferences and discharge planning.
• Communicate patient progress, concerns, and shift handoffs to the care team.
• Complete accurate clinical documentation, treatment records, quality controls, and equipment checks.
• Follow infection prevention practices, professional standards, and applicable regulations.
• Serve as the lead or on-call therapist when the department director is unavailable and provide coverage at the Woodlands campus when required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited respiratory therapy program.
• Current Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Texas.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Three years of experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, including experience appropriate to the patient population and level of care. Mechanical ventilation experience is required.
• Intubation skills preferred.
• American Heart Association Advanced Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications preferred.
• Ability to obtain Nexus-approved Behavioral Intervention Certification within 90 days of hire and maintain it annually.
