Transportation Engineering & Operations Bureau Chief

Provide enterprise-level leadership for Arlington County’s transportation engineering and operations programs Oversee the planning, implementation, operation, and maintenance of critical transportation systems Advance roadway safety and Vision Zero goals through data-driven analysis Oversee transportation design, traffic engineering analysis, and development review activities Lead parking and curb-space management programs Provide bureau-wide administrative and program management oversight Serve as a key departmental and County leader during special events and emergency response activities Requirements Bachelor's degree in Transportation, Engineering, Transportation Planning, Urban Planning, Public Administration or related field; Significant and progressively responsible experience in Traffic Engineering, Transportation Planning, or Parking Administration; Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Virginia or currently licensed in another state with reciprocity. Core Competencies Demonstrates expertise in Transportation Engineering and Planning, with a focus on data-driven analysis to enhance roadway safety and achieve Vision Zero goals. Proven leadership in managing transportation systems, traffic engineering, and program oversight within a governmental context.
