Job Description

Job Title: Project Manager (Heavy Civil) – Marine Construction

Job Description

This role combines Superintendent and Project Manager responsibilities to lead complex pile driving and marine construction projects, with a particular focus on wharf construction and pre-cast systems. You will split your time between the field and the office, providing hands-on leadership on-site while also driving detailed planning, scheduling, and cost control activities. The position requires a strong command of heavy civil marine construction, Primavera P6 scheduling, and the ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders to deliver large-scale waterfront projects safely, on time, and within budget.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all on-site construction activities, including pile driving operations and pre-cast installations for marine and wharf projects.
  • Lead foremen and collaborate closely with Field Engineers to ensure field execution aligns with project plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Plan operations several months in advance to ensure resources, materials, and equipment are in place for efficient project delivery.
  • Manage detailed project schedules, including sequencing of work, critical path activities, and milestones using Primavera P6.
  • Coordinate and oversee materials procurement, subcontractors, personnel, and equipment to support safe and efficient field operations.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety standards, quality expectations, and project specifications across all phases of construction.
  • Maintain a consistent leadership presence on-site during construction hours to provide direction, resolve issues, and support field teams.
  • Collaborate with project managers and engineers to develop detailed operational and construction execution plans.
  • Track and manage project costs, production rates, and schedules, and implement corrective actions as needed to maintain project performance.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance programs and verify that all equipment meets safety and operational requirements.
  • Manage subcontractor performance, including scope clarification, coordination, and enforcement of quality control standards.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate field documentation, including daily reports, logs, and other project records.
  • Support contract management activities, including change orders, billing, and coordination of contractual obligations with stakeholders.
  • Participate in the management of RFIs, submittals, and construction documents to ensure clarity and compliance with design intent.
  • Promote and reinforce a culture of safety, ethical conduct, and accountability on-site for all project participants.
  • Perform additional duties related to marine and heavy civil construction management as assigned.
  • Work with consideration for reasonable accommodations for individuals with disabilities, ensuring inclusive and safe operations.

Essential Skills

  • 7–15+ years of experience in marine construction with a strong focus on pile driving, wharf construction, and pre-cast systems.
  • 10+ years of experience in field or office leadership roles within marine construction.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large-scale waterfront and marine projects from planning through execution.
  • Experience with heavy civil construction projects, particularly those involving marine and wharf structures.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling software for developing, maintaining, and analyzing project schedules.
  • Demonstrated experience with construction management activities such as scheduling, coordination, and field supervision.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to plan operations months in advance and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective coordination with field teams, engineers, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
  • Strong contract management skills, including understanding of scopes, obligations, and performance requirements.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and ethical conduct in all aspects of project delivery.
  • Experience in managing subcontractors and overseeing construction supervision on complex projects.
  • Ability to manage change orders, billing processes, and contract negotiation within a heavy civil or marine construction environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with pile driving operations in marine environments, including complex foundations for wharf and waterfront structures.
  • Hands-on experience with wharf construction, pre-cast construction, and marine construction is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of P6 scheduling best practices, including critical path analysis and resource loading.
  • Experience managing contracts, including preparation and negotiation of change orders and related documentation.
  • Ability to generate and manage Requests for Information (RFIs) and submittals to clarify design intent and ensure compliance.
  • Experience in commercial construction, project engineering, and construction document management.
  • Experience with heavy civil construction billing management and cost tracking.
  • Familiarity with general contractor operations and subcontractor management in a marine or heavy civil context.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in the field and in the office.
  • Commitment to maintaining accurate project records, including daily reports and field documentation.
