Job Description:

The Assistant Grocery Manager Reports to the Grocery Manager and is responsible for supporting the Grocery Manager in the daily operation of the grocery department. This includes assisting the Grocery Manager in overseeing floor and stocking operations of the grocery department in compliance with established policies and procedures. The Assistant Grocery Manager will also serve as a backup for the Frozen and Dairy department managers as needed.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

• Directs Grocery Department employees in their tasks to ensure productivity and proper stocking procedures, including: matching UPCs from product to shelf, proper product rotation, and checking dates
• Assists Grocery Manager in ordering from vendors and suppliers and will assume ordering duties in the absence of the Grocery Manager
• Oversees daily product sampling schedule, ensuring samples are ready for prime time
• Ensures damaged and mis-picked product is either marked down or scanned out of inventory in a timely manner
• Ensures damaged and mis-picked product is reported to AWG and other vendors within their policy timeframes
• Provides input in performance evaluations of employees
• Works with Department Managers in optimizing department sales through creative merchandising, endcap planning, and making displays exciting
• Assists in training new employees, striving for productivity, proper stocking practices, and providing excellent customer service
• Assumes full authority and responsibilities of the department in the absence of the Grocery Manager
• Assists the Grocery Manager in meeting labor, sales, and margin goals and communicates relevant goals to staff
• Communicates standards, expectations, policy changes, and product knowledge to staff
• Demonstrates a willingness and ability to cooperate and communicate with co-workers, supervisors, subordinates, and outside contacts in a timely and appropriate manner

Requirements:

Skills/Experience:

• Excellent customer service skills
• Great multitasking, organizational, and communication skills
• Experience in grocery, dairy, or frozen stocking is preferred
• Some supervisory experience is preferred
• Experience with Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel), preferred. 

Education/Credentials:

• High school education/GED

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of standing, walking, lifting, and reaching
• Must be able to lift 5-20 pounds frequently, and occasionally 50 pounds
