A Registered Nurse II (RN II) is a fully competent RN who provides nursing care in a skilled and effective manner. Utilizing appropriate decision making skills exhibits competence in the technical, interpersonal and cognitive skills required to independently and safely manage routine patient assignment. The RN II establishes a plan of care, sets goals, determines priorities, and provides care within established standards of practice. External candidates can be hired into this level with a minimum of one year of nursing experience. 

Promotion to RNII is automatic after completion of one (1) year of clinical experience and a satisfactory performance appraisal at a RNI level and new hires with a minimum of one (1) year acute care experience in their specialty. Must demonstrate consistent satisfactory performance (overall rating meets expectations or above) to maintain this clinical level.

The scope of responsibility, duties and accountability at the facility department and position levels including knowledge and practice of the clinical/technical skills necessary to the position consistent with the Nurse Practice Act. Nursing job duties are to meet the Nurse Practice Act, Title 22, The Joint Commission and the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care and the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, and other regulatory requirements.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides and accurately documents direct and indirect patient care services that ensures the safety, comfort, personal hygiene, and protection of patients in a timely manner.

• Provides care and patient education on disease prevention and restorative measures.

• Provides direct and indirect care services, including, but not limited to, the administration of medications and therapeutic agents necessary to implement treatment, disease prevention, or rehabilitative plan of care.

• Performs skin tests, immunizations, phlebotomy and the initiation of peripheral venous access.

• Observes signs and symptoms of illness, reactions to medications/treatments, general behavior, and/or general physical condition.

• Demonstrates refined assessment skills, integrating appropriate data sources to assess the signs, symptoms, reactions, behaviors, or general appearance to determine normal versus abnormal characteristics.

• Plans and implements individualized patient care based on observations. Implements appropriate reporting, referrals and care in accordance with standardized procedures. Initiates emergency procedures when indicated.

• Provides care to special patient populations and patients with diverse cultural backgrounds. Identifies patient’s readiness for learning and ability to follow directions/instructions and give consent.

• Demonstrates knowledge and is able to identify and make special adjustments as required to the specific populations needs, including cultural, spiritual, age, psychosocial, communication, gender, sexual orientation, economic, education, family and condition needs.

• Identifies and assesses patient safety concerns with respect to age and developmental considerations. Intervenes to provide a safe environment and evaluates effectiveness of intervention for patient.

• Specializes in assisting with minimally invasive, image-guided procedures such as angiograms, stent placements, biopsies, and catheter insertions.

• Requires advanced knowledge of imaging technology and equipment (e.g., fluoroscopy, CT, and MRI).

• Focuses on pre-, intra-, and post-procedure care for patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic interventions.

• Performs sterile techniques, vascular access, and advanced hemodynamic monitoring.

• Works closely with radiologists and technologists, often in a team setting during high-stakes procedures.

• Understands and follows standards for: Moderate sedation, blood product transfusion, contrast screening and reaction management. 

Qualifications

Educational Requirements:

• Associate Degree in Nursing, minimum
• Bachelor Degree in Nursing, preferred

License/Certifications:

• Valid California Registered Nurse License
• BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
• ACLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross required
• CRN - Certified Radiology Nurse (preferred)

Experience:

• Minimum 3 years of experience in interventional Radiology, Cath Lab, or Neuro-Interventional procedures
• Minimum 3 Years of Vascular access experience
