Description of Work This position focuses on training mechanics to safely and effectively maintain diesel and construction equipment for PennDOT. Responsibilities include developing lesson materials, providing technical instruction, and supporting field operations. Teach proper and safe maintenance methods for department diesel and construction equipment. Create lesson plans, demonstrations, and instructional materials using computers and other training tools. Conduct field-based mechanic training in districts and counties, including necessary travel. Assist mechanics with technical repairs and provide guidance when needed. Attend vendor and manufacturer trainings and apply new knowledge to department programs. Maintain a positive and professional learning environment that supports student success. Work Schedule and Additional Information Full‑time employment. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday–Friday, with a 30‑minute lunch. Telework is not an option in this position. Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non‑negotiable. Qualifications Three years as a Diesel and Construction Equipment Mechanic (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or Six years of journey‑level mechanical experience in the diagnosis and repair of automobiles, heavy trucks, or construction equipment, which includes four years of experience in the diagnosis and repair of diesel vehicles or equipment; or An equivalent combination of experience and training. Special Requirements Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the L restriction removed and the E or O restriction removed. Possession of an active Pennsylvania Class 4 or Class 7 Inspection Mechanic Certification during the probationary period. Additional Requirements Possession of an active Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration Regulations. Demonstrated successful operation of equipment with a manual transmission. Completion of equipment operator instructor training. Ability to perform essential job functions.
