The position supports the daily operation of university facilities, performing installation, maintenance, repair, and service of electrical systems and components rated up to 600 volts. Perform preventive maintenance using multimeters and specialty equipment to safely test, measure, and correct any observed deficiencies. Generate material lists, acquire materials efficiently, keep accurate records, and maintain daily time reports. Perform electrical maintenance work per established safety procedures; inspect work of others for conformance with specifications and codes. Assist other team members in achieving shop goals related to key performance indicators. Provide timely and courteous customer service, keeping supervisors updated on daily work order status and maintaining clear communication channels. Participate in the On‑Call Program, complete paperwork accurately and on time, and keep up‑to‑date documentation of all systems. Required Qualifications High school graduation or GED. Three years of experience as a journey‑level electrician. Three years of experience troubleshooting electrical systems. Journeyman electrical license recognized by the City of Austin. Excellent communication skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions. Preferred Qualifications Associate's Degree in a related field or graduation from a technical or vocational trade school. More than three years of journey‑level experience. License as a Master Electrician. Experience in another maintenance trade. Stable work history. Experience at UT Austin or another higher education institution. Successful completion of the Leader Development Program. Salary Range $61,857 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions Environmental Demands: Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished) All weather conditions, extreme temperatures, chemical fumes, standard office conditions, biohazards, chemicals, electrical and mechanical hazards Physical Tasks: Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation Manual dexterity, climbing stairs and ladders, lifting and moving Additional Working Conditions: Essential personnel may be required to work during extraordinary or emergency situations when the university is closed. Use of electronic device (iPhone, iPad, laptop/desktop) for time reporting and work management. Confined spaces, manholes, tunnels, elevated work, extended shifts including nights, weekends, holidays. Loud noise, high dust, allergen levels, up to 50 lbs lifting, twisting, grasping, pushing, pulling, bending, operation of job‑related equipment. May require tuberculosis screening and occasional respirator use. May drive university vehicles; driver rating must meet policy. Participation in on‑call program. Work Shift 40 hours a week, five 8‑hour days, or possibly four 10‑hour days with schedule to be determined with supervisor. Some overtime, evenings, weekends, and holidays possible.
