Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN for a Progressive Care Unit position at a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital, requiring 2+ years of experience and a GA or compact RN license.

Details

• 24-bed Progressive Care Unit within a Level 1 Trauma, teaching hospital with Chest Pain Center and Stroke Center designations
• Primary population includes cardiothoracic and vascular surgical patients in pre- and post-operative step-down care
• Secondary population includes cardiology, pulmonology, and general medical/surgical patients
• Cares for pre/post LVAD patients and those with acute or chronic disease and common med-surg comorbidities
• RN to patient ratio of 1:4-6 with LPN support at 1:4-6 and 2-3 CNAs per shift
• 12-hour night shift schedule (7P-7A), 36 hours per week
• Weekend rotation of 5-6 shifts within a 6-week schedule
• Floating required to all adult med-surg and telemetry units in house
• No on-call or call-back requirements
• Unit uses EPIC EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Pyxis medication dispensing, and Phillips monitors
• Utilizes VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips, Dynamapp portable vital sign monitors, bladder scanners, PCA pumps, and suction machines
• Central Telemetry Unit supports cardiac monitoring
• Unit has dedicated charge nurse, resource/discharge nurses, and 24/7 RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist coverage
• PICC team available; phlebotomy primarily performed via lab collect or CVL draws by nursing staff

Requirements

• Active RN license (GA or Compact) required
• BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• BCR (Basic Cardiac Rhythm) certification required
• Medical-Surgical national certification preferred
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, with core unit specialty experience within the last 12 months
• Strong clinical assessment and med-surg nursing skills appropriate for a Level 1 Trauma hospital
• Skilled in trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, and titrating drips to heart rate
• Experience with insulin and heparin drip management, including Glucommander protocols
• IV insertion, central line management, and wound/post-op monitoring experience
• Cardiac telemetry interpretation skills required
• EPIC EMR experience required
• Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
• One professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

• Provide progressive step-down care for cardiothoracic, vascular, and general med-surg patients
• Coordinate care with interdisciplinary teams including RT, Hospitalist, and Intensivist staff
• Support discharge planning and patient education, particularly regarding renal and fluid management
• One day of facility orientation with educational modules, followed by two days of departmental orientation
• Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of major holidays
• Scrub color requirement: Navy for RNs
• Unit culture described as busy but team-oriented
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Local candidates accepted with no radius rule and same pay rate as travelers
• Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least one year after a permanent position
• RTO requests subject to manager approval
