Job Summary

Sigma Inc. is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Animal Care Technician to support operations in a regulated animal research laboratory environment in Fulton, Missouri .

This is a 9-month full-time contract position requiring hands-on experience in animal husbandry, livestock handling, veterinary support, or scientific animal research. The role operates under strict compliance with Animal Welfare Act Regulations, NIH Guidelines, USDA standards, and LAC accreditation requirements .

Key Responsibilities

• Perform animal husbandry and health care in accordance with experimental protocols and federal regulations
• Provide daily animal care including feed, water, and enrichment materials
• Conduct daily health and welfare assessments
• Recognize signs of illness or distress and report findings to Site Veterinarian or Team Leader
• Assist with scientific procedures and clinical R&D sample collection per study protocols
• Maintain and document:
  
  
  • Animal care records
  • Preventive medicine logs
  • USDA-required documentation
  • Study protocol documentation
• Clean and sanitize animal rooms and equipment
• Maintain, adjust, and repair:
  
  
  • Animal pens
  • Feeding systems
  • Drinking systems
  • Livestock handling equipment
• Support biosecurity procedures including water sanitation, feed decontamination, and environmental sample collection
• Assist in ante-mortem and post-mortem procedures
• Ensure compliance with USDA, EPA, NIH Guide, LAC standards, and company policies

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 2 years of related experience , such as:
  
  
  • Livestock handling
  • Animal husbandry
  • Veterinary clinical assistance
  • Scientific animal research
• Willingness to obtain Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification within 12 months (if not already certified)
• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Willing to complete drug screening and post-offer physical (if required)

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Ability to lift:

• Must not have allergies to animals or livestock/feed dust
• Ability to work under biosafety laboratory conditions
• Willingness to work weekends (every 5th weekend rotation)
