In just over 50 years, UConn Health has evolved to encompass more research endeavors, to provide more ways to access our superior care, and to innovate both practical medicine and our methods of educating the practitioners of tomorrow.At the UConn Health, this class is accountable for independently performing database development and management and analytical tasks in support of research projects.SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under limited supervision of an employee of higher grade.SUPERVISION EXERCISED:Supervise/lead staff assigned to data management projects.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:Designs, develops and maintains databases for various research projects/programs;Consults across the research community in database development and management as needed;Coordinates and conducts project briefing with staff;Provides on-going technical support;Manages updates, modifications, and enhancements to database;Develops and conducts staff training on databases and tracking tools; designs, creates and updates database user's manuals;Designs and edits electronic data input forms, importing and exporting data files across numerous formats [such as, Excel, Access, CSV, Tableau, etc.];Maintains quality control of data;Performs statistical analyses using software packages;Prepares summaries, tables and charts for reports to present findings in publications and/or presentations to other health care professionals or the public; presents and reports findings to key stakeholders;Assists in the evaluation of system hardware/software problems;Provides input to performance evaluations for staff assigned to data management within programs/projects;Assists in the defining data management policies and procedures;Maintains current knowledge with respect to relevant technology for research analyses;Performs related duties as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREDKNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:Working knowledge of the principles of database construction, management, and retrieval methods.Knowledge of structured programming, testing and debugging techniques.Understanding of the principles of and techniques of data modeling with experience with data modeling tools.Solid understanding of statistical analysis.Knowledge of Federal and State laws, regulations and guidelines that governs healthcare and information technology.Proficient [advanced level] with Microsoft applications, including SSRS reporting tool; and structured query language [SQL].Ability to use statistical packages such as but not limited to SAS, SPSS.Project management skills.Critical thinking skills.Excellent analytical skills both quantitative and qualitative.Good problem solving skills.Ability to learn other software applications as required.Ability to analyze operational data systems requirement and develop databases specific to requirement.Ability to think logically.Ability to manipulate large data sets from various electronic format, importing and exporting data across various format.Ability to work with all levels of staff internal and external to the institution.Ability to resolve data input, storage and/or retrieval issues and to design solutions and modifications.Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and written.Demonstrated ability to supervise staff.EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:General Experience:Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field, such as bioinformatics, mathematics or as specified.Four (4) years responsible research experience within clinical science and/or basic science health related research in healthcare or academic based research environment.Demonstrated applicable research data management experience.Demonstrated experience in the use of computer systems and statistical packages and programs and experience with quantitative data analysis at an advanced level.SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:Experience with the REDCap application, including project development, production implementation, and ongoing oversight.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Ability to develop and deliver REDCap training, mentoring, and workshops for investigators, students, study staff, and other users.Strong customer service skills, with the ability to provide clear, practical, and effective support.Experience maintaining website content.SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm with a 30-minute unpaid meal break. This position may involve local or out of state travel. Incumbents in this classification may be required to work some holidays, evenings and weekend hours.
