Instructional Aide – Blind School (260004DY) Organization: Ohio School for the Blind Work Location: Ohio School for the Blind, 5220 North High St, Columbus, OH 43214 Primary Location: United States of America – Ohio – Franklin County – Columbus Compensation: $21.19 Schedule: Full-time Union: OCSEA Job Overview The Ohio State School for the Blind is seeking dynamic applicants with a passion for supporting students who are diverse learners. We are offering three vacancies for Instructional Aides who will assist teachers in delivering specialized instruction to students who are blind, visually impaired, deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, or have multiple disabilities. Responsibilities Assist teachers in academic instruction across core subjects and vocational/daily living skills. Provide tutoring, facilitate group or individual lessons, and support instructional delivery in collaboration with teachers. Ensure safety and well‑being of students; counsel as needed for educational, emotional, physical, or personal needs. Monitor discipline and student compliance with school and IEP rules. Support proper use of adaptive technology and language enrichment services. Accompany students during meals and coordinate transportation (field trips, bus drop–off, escort to/from transport). Operate motor vehicle when escorting or transporting students. Implement teacher‑provided lesson plans in teacher absences to maintain instruction continuity. Assist in preparation and creation of lesson plans, assembling instructional materials, setting up classroom, taking attendance, grading, and setting up accessible equipment. Prepare and maintain instructional media, operate classroom technology, edit audio/video materials, and assist in visual lesson development. Assist in maintenance and repair of equipment. Assist in IEP meeting preparation, compile data, and provide documentation on student progress. Participate in conferences and inter‑disciplinary meetings. Perform clerical tasks such as translating, typing, duplicating lesson plans, maintaining student records, and managing classroom supplies. Qualifications Current Educational Aide Permit issued by the State Board of Education. 12 months current teaching assistance experience. Intermediate level on the Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) required upon hire for positions at the Ohio School for the Deaf; advanced level required within one year for those positions. Training and Development Renew Educational Aide Permit in accordance with State Board of Education rules and regulations. Obtain CPR and first aid certification within one year of hire. Obtain appropriate van certification if required for transportation duties. Unusual Working Conditions May work evenings and/or weekends; may work outdoors exposed to weather; may encounter aggressive or unpredictable behavior, handling human waste, or exposure to infectious diseases.
