Clinical Nurse Educator

POSITION SUMMARY The Clinical Nurse Educator is a clinically competent, registered professional nurse who evaluates educational needs and learning opportunities for the nursing staff in Women and Infant Services. The Educator coordinates andprovides the unit education activities for staff development and new employee orientation and assists the MaternalProgram Managers with program development, performance improvement initiatives and advances in clinicalknowledge and practices. POSITION REQUIREMENTS Minimum Education: BSN required, MSN preferred. National Certification in area of specialty required or obtained within first yearof employment. Minimum Work Experience: 2 years clinical experience in Labor and Delivery. Required Licenses/Certifications: Current RN license with the State of Texas. Appropriate CPR Certification. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Preferred Qualification JOB SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS 1. Demonstrates an understanding of and adherence to the HMHD Compliance Plan. 2. Demonstrates strong competency base in clinical and problem solving skills based on theoretical knowledge, clinicalexperience, and sound judgment. 7. Serves as a role model and clinical resource for nursing practice in area of specialty. 8. Able to identify high-risk patients and assesses progress and appropriateness of interventions. Utilizes thecomputer based charting system as one way to assess and review interventions regarding patient education, careplan development, proper documentation, etc. 9. Participates in the development, evaluation, and revision of standards, policies and procedures within an area ofexpertise. Uses computer based charting system to support the creation, enhancement or revision of nursingpolicies and procedures. 10. Coordinates the orientation of new personnel and the maintenance of current competencies for their specific unit. 11. Contributes to the expansion of nursing knowledge and the clinical application of this knowledge throughpublications and presentations on clinical topics and issues. 12. Acts as a role model of professional nursing practice in the Hunt Regional Medical Center and in the community. 13. Demonstrates knowledge of current practice standards and guidelines and is able to communicate that knowledge tothe patient care team. 14. Participates in the development, implementation and evaluation of standards of care. 15. Coordinates with Maternal Program Managers educational needs for the Labor and Delivery and Mother/Baby staff.Educator will be responsible for developing and teaching educational content. 16. Attends monthly Maternal Quality meetings, monthly staff meetings and bi-monthly OB Committee meetings. #J-18808-Ljbffr
