Lead Radiological Tech - Up to $20,000 Sign On Bonus

Summary Under the general supervision of the Manager, Medical Imaging, this role oversees and coordinates the work of radiologic technologists and support personnel in performing a variety of technical radiologic procedures. The supervisor provides guidance and supervision to technologists and students on imaging procedures, ensures efficient scheduling of patients and room availability, and develops appropriate work schedules for staff to support anticipated needs. The position maintains inventories of medical and radiology supplies, ensures equipment integrity, and performs clerical and administrative functions as necessary. In addition, all duties of a radiologic technologist are performed, maintaining compliance with regulatory requirements of the American College of Radiology and The Joint Commission. All essential functions address age‑specific needs of geriatric, adult, and pediatric patients, fostering patient‑centered care in alignment with Brown University Health mission, vision, and values, and fit for all developmental stages and cultural patterns. Core Success Factors Instill Trust and Value Differences Patient and Community Focus and Collaborate Responsibilities Schedules work time, holidays, sick time and vacation coverage for employees within the unit. Provides assistance with problems and communicates new or changed policies and procedures to unit personnel. Counsels, guides, and evaluates performance of employees regularly assigned to the unit; may provide input on hiring or disciplinary action. Ensures efficient patient flow by scheduling patient examinations and coordinating work assignments of employees while considering current examination volume, radiography type, and equipment and facility availability. Provides clinical experience for radiology technology students by instructing and guiding them through radiological procedures. Checks radiographs performed by technologists for quality control purposes. Performs clerical and administrative tasks such as inventorying and ordering supplies; compiling statistics; checking equipment for proper operating condition; arranging repairs; and providing input for budgetary needs. Assumes charge‑duty responsibility during weekends in the absence of regularly scheduled supervisory personnel. Practices ALARA principles of radiation protection, including use of personal dosimeters. Performs all functions of a radiologic technologist regularly. Minimum Qualifications Registered through the American Registry for Radiologic Technologists and completed at least two years formal training in an accredited school of radiologic technology. Current and valid license from the Department of Health to practice in the State of Rhode Island. Current CPR certification from AHA and BLS certification for healthcare providers. Ability to operate all types of radiographic and related equipment, push portable equipment, and transfer and position patients. Conceptual ability to determine means of providing requested radiographs of acceptable diagnostic quality based on the specifics of each case. Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients who may be under physical or emotional stress, to instruct students and employees, and to provide leadership to other employees. Ability to organize and coordinate the operation of a unit. Analytical skills to compile and interpret routine data. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. Experience One to two years of increasing responsibility and experience in a hospital radiology department. Work Environment and Physical Requirements Work location is in the main radiology department or a smaller satellite operation with minimal noise, dust, or temperature discomfort. Exposure to radiation occurs, but the risk is low when safety precautions are followed. Continuous standing, walking, pushing portable radiographic equipment, and lifting and positioning patients are required. Some exposure to odors from human waste and chemicals from automatic film processing equipment may occur.
