About the Role

The Company is seeking a Vice President, Conservation to serve as its most senior conservation executive. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing enterprise-level vision, strategy, and operational leadership for the organization's integrated conservation departments, including land management, trails, research, and policy. This role demands a strategic, collaborative, and externally credible leader with a proven track record in conservation, land management, forestry, environmental policy, or a related field. The VP will be accountable for the company's land management and stewardship strategy, the long-term viability of its trails program, the scientific integrity of its research enterprise, and the success of its conservation and recreation advocacy at local, state, and federal levels. Key responsibilities include setting the strategic direction for owned and conserved lands, overseeing land management planning, maintaining leadership in responsible land management, and championing the company's trails as a public-facing asset. The role also involves executive oversight of the research program, building strategic partnerships, and leading policy and advocacy efforts. Applicants for the Vice President, Conservation position at the company should have a minimum of 15 years' leadership experience in a relevant field, with at least 7 years at the executive or senior director level. A Bachelor's degree is required, with a preference for a Master's degree and professional credentials. The ideal candidate will have a deep familiarity with the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic conservation landscape, including key agencies, Tribes, NGOs, and policy actors. Strong financial acumen, demonstrated fundraising success, and a track record of building and retaining high-performing teams are essential. The role requires excellent communication skills, the ability to negotiate complex land transactions, and a commitment to the mission of the organization. The VP will also be expected to represent the company externally as a prominent conservation leader and to work closely with the President & CEO and the Development team on fundraising initiatives.
