Transportation Technician

Position Highlights

• Department: Transportation Tech/Transport
• Hours: 24 hours per week
• Shift: Days (every other weekend)

Position Summary

Patient Transport tech is responsible for the safe and timely transport of patients, medical equipment and patient-related items and will endeavor to provide for a positive patient interaction when doing so.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport patients to and from clinical, ancillary and support areas by wheelchair, stretcher, bed, chair or other modes as requested along with additional equipment including rolling IV poles, oxygen tanks, intravenous pumps, drips or special equipment
• Provide exceptional experience for patients as they travel through the organization
• Ensures patient comfort throughout the trip by remaining attentive, ensuring modesty and engaging in appropriate encouraging and supportive patient centered conversations
• Responds to requests with a sense of urgency and demonstrates self direction and initiative in completing tasks
• Assists clinical staff in transferring patients to and from beds and stretchers
• Ensures that oxygen tanks have sufficient oxygen for the duration of the transport
• Transports deceased patients to the morgue
• Utilize proper body mechanics to ensure patient and staff safety while assisting in patient movement
• The transporter must monitor the patient's overall well being throughout the transport and may also perform basic healthcare services such as initiating CPR or patient positioning
• Delivery and movement of equipment throughout the organization
• Follow all protocols regarding to safety, privacy and infection prevention
• Other job related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal skills, positive attitude with a focus on exceptional customer service
• Proficiency in English
• High school diploma/GED
• Basic problem solving and time management skills
• Ability to follow directions
• Strong focus on teamwork.
• Ability to transport patients with specific needs (those requiring oxygen, IV's and drainage tubes etc)

Preferred Qualifications

• 3+ months related customer service experience
• Additional languages a plus
• Experience working in a healthcare setting
