BSA/AML Investigator

Accountability Statement Assist the BSA/AML Manager in utilizing the BSA/AML Risk Mitigation framework that complements the overall Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) function. Support the identification, analysis, response, and monitoring of internal and external BSA/AML risks across various products and delivery channels. Help VyStar achieve its mission of providing quality service and maintaining fiscal soundness, as well as its strategic goals and objectives. Essential Job Functions •Support the BSA/AML Manager in developing and maintaining the BSA/AML risk mitigation framework.

  • Maintain effective communication and efficient workflow processing internally, collaborating with other areas and outside partners.
  • Continuously monitor activity for trends and patterns that may indicate increased money‑laundering risk.
  • Assist the VP of BSA Risk Management & BSA/AML Manager in fostering a risk‑intelligent culture and promoting collaboration across the organization.
  • Advise line managers on risk‑based thinking and decision‑making, and consult on business line risk assessment and management.
  • Coordinate with Internal Audit and other ERM functions to share expertise and knowledge.
  • Thoroughly understand all aspects of the BSA/AML program, including alert processing, case formation, closure, and regulatory reporting.
  • Make recommendations to improve the identification and mitigation of emerging BSA/AML risks.
  • Monitor transactions, alerts, queues, and dashboards within the BSA/AML system, ensuring timely completion and identifying risky patterns.
  • Ensure timely processing and closure of cases per regulatory requirements.
  • Document case files consistently and accurately, supporting decisions about SAR filing, criminal conviction, sentencing, restitution, and insurance recovery.
  • Maintain the quality and accuracy of information entered into the BSA/AML system and reporting systems.
  • Perform SAR reporting and quality control processes with strict adherence to accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness.
  • Research, investigate, and process AML alerts (Remote Banking alerts, Red Flag alerts) from daily/weekly queues.
  • Conduct initial and annual review of existing high‑risk accounts and various VyStar‑wide BSA/AML/OFAC/CIP projects.
  • Maintain elements of the KYC program quality assurance for new and existing member relationships.
  • Assist law enforcement investigations while safeguarding member privacy.
  • Support BSA/AML training and professional development initiatives.
  • Identify issues proactively and keep the BSA/AML Manager and VP informed of escalated activities.
  • Develop and maintain inter‑departmental relationships and knowledge of emerging industry trends.
  • Promote teamwork and an enterprise‑wide proactive risk mitigation approach.
  • Meet deadlines consistently and complete follow‑up activities on time.
  • Complete all required training and assessments (BSA, Compliance, Information Security, Sexual Harassment, Diversity training, etc.).
  • Proficiently use business systems such as MISER, Verafin, Microsoft Word, and Excel (pivot tables, data sorting).
Education and Job Requirements •High School Diploma or GED equivalency required.
  • Associate degree in a business curriculum or related field preferred.
  • 4–6 years of retail banking experience or 3–6 years of BSA/AML compliance experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities •Understand VyStar’s business plan objectives.
  • Competent knowledge of BSA/AML requirements (Bank Secrecy Act, AML/CIP/OFAC, USA PATRIOT Act, etc.).
  • Proficient PC skills; working knowledge of Word, Excel, Access.
Certifications •Professional BSA/AML certification preferred. •Maintain continuing professional education hours to retain certification.
