Job Overview This position helps with fixing vehicles and equipment used in the pipe rehabilitation industry after an accident or other incident causing structural or surface damage, repairing them to an original operating state. Layne Christensen Company, founded over 140 years ago as a drilling contractor, is one of the largest, most experienced water and mineral service companies. Its operations include well drilling and construction for dewatering wells, monitoring well completions, environmental and geotechnical drilling, water well rehabilitation, pumping equipment sales and services, mineral exploration drilling, hydrologic investigations, and water treatment technologies. In June 2018, Layne Christensen became a wholly owned subsidiary of Granite Construction, Inc. The Columbus office of Layne’s “Ranney Collector Wells” group is looking to fill a Shop Helper position. The ideal candidate will be a well‑rounded “jack of all trades” capable of addressing electrical and hydraulic issues; familiarity with submersible pumps is a plus. Training is available in certain areas. Essential Job Accountabilities Maintain and perform minor repairs on construction equipment, specifically electrical panels, submersible and turbine pumps (including starter boxes), hydraulic pumps and equipment Load and unload equipment and trucks Track inventory of important parts/equipment Operate a forklift Complete basic daily paperwork Assist with fabrication (welding ability a plus) Drive a company‑supplied pickup as needed Expedite delivery of field supplies to locations in and out of state Perform yard duties as directed by supervisor Perform other duties as assigned Qualifications Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation Must have a clean driving record and be able to obtain a DOT medical card Must be able to work safely and follow directions Must be able to lift items up to 50 lbs and perform team lifts over 50 lbs Must be able to stand and walk for the majority of the shift May require occasional out‑of‑town or out‑of‑state work (one to three weeks per year) Must be dependable, reliable, honest, trustworthy, and able to work periods of time without supervision Must have good verbal and written communication skills to interact with employees and vendors Able to pass a work fitness physical and be physically able to secure loads Additional Requirements / Physical Demands Frequently required to talk and hear; stand, walk, sit and use hands to operate small hand tools Frequently required to reach with hands and arms Must frequently lift and/or move up to 70 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions Comply with, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment Ability and willingness to abide by the company’s Code of Conduct on a daily basis Equal Opportunity Employer Statement Granite Construction Incorporated is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer of minorities, females, protected veterans, individuals with disabilities and a drug‑free workplace. #J-18808-Ljbffr Franklin Resources
