Maintenance Manager

Overview The Maintenance Manager oversees plant equipment performance, supports production reliability, and leads a team of skilled maintenance professionals. The role combines hands‑on technical work, team leadership, project oversight, and administrative responsibility for the maintenance function. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Team Development Provide day‑to‑day direction for the maintenance team, assigning work and establishing clear expectations for individual and team goals. Evaluate performance, deliver constructive feedback, and recognize strong contributions. Address performance concerns promptly and ensure accountability. Foster a collaborative, open culture where team members share ideas, raise concerns, and work through conflict constructively. Communicate operational updates and business information in a clear, timely manner. Maintenance Operations & Equipment Reliability Perform routine maintenance tasks such as lubrication, belt changes, oil changes, inspections, and equipment cleaning. Support operators and production teams during scheduled preventative maintenance activities (TPM). Recommend and implement tasks within the plant’s CMMS to strengthen equipment reliability and uptime. Monitor production machinery to identify performance issues and suggest ways to optimize cycle times. Troubleshooting & Technical Repair Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and pneumatic issues on production and facility equipment. Observe equipment in operation to pinpoint the root cause of malfunctions. Use diagnostic tools, including multimeters, tachometers, calipers, and related instruments. Install, repair, or replace components and mechanical assemblies. Safely dismantle machinery when needed to remove defective parts. Follow lockout/tagout procedures to ensure safe maintenance practices. Conduct facility and building repairs as needed. Administrative & Planning Responsibilities Ensure all maintenance activities are accurately documented in the CMMS. Prepare shift handoff notes and maintain communication between maintenance and production teams. Manage parts ordering, maintain appropriate stock levels, and track inventory. Coordinate downtime with production and other departments to plan repairs efficiently. Oversee purchase orders, invoices, and budgeted expenditures for the maintenance function. Track safety and compliance documentation and participate in cross‑functional initiatives. Maintain organized and clean work areas. Project & Contractor Oversight Coordinate external contractors for major activities such as equipment installations, lighting upgrades, facility improvements, and large‑scale repairs. Support engineering staff by managing contractors onsite when engineering team members are not available. Determine whether projects and tasks should be completed internally or by external vendors based on skill requirements and resource availability. Qualifications Education & Experience Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, technical certification, or equivalent hands‑on experience. 10+ years of experience in maintenance and repair within a manufacturing environment. Minimum of 2 years leading or supervising maintenance personnel. Technical Skills & Knowledge Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Experience with CMMS platforms. AutoCAD experience preferred. Ability to interpret blueprints, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings. Familiarity with LEAN concepts and continuous improvement methods.
