Job Summary and Responsibilities As our Interventional Radiology Technologist Lead you will provide assistance to the Interventional Radiologist during radiographic interventional procedures, contributing significantly to the operations of the department. You will work within the boundaries set by the standards of the profession and adhere to all State and Federal regulations.Every day you will prepare patients and the procedure room, ensuring all specialized equipment, imaging systems, and supplies are readily available and properly functioning. You will operate various imaging modalities, including fluoroscopy, providing real-time technical support to the physician.To be successful in this role, you will possess an in-depth understanding of anatomy, physiology, and interventional radiology procedures, coupled with strong technical proficiency in radiation safety and sterile technique. You will demonstrate superior critical thinking skills, collaborating effectively with the multidisciplinary team in high-pressure clinical situations.Sign-on bonus and Lead Pay available! Key Responsibilities:Patient Care & Safety:Greets patients, explains procedures, and answers questions to alleviate anxiety and ensure cooperation.Positions patients correctly for each examination, ensuring comfort and accurate angle.Applies appropriate radiation protection (e.g., lead shielding) for patients, staff, and self.Screens patients for contraindications, pregnancy, or metallic implants as per protocol.Monitors patient condition during procedures and responds to any adverse reactions promptly.Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe environment in the imaging rooms.Imaging Procedures & Operations:Operates radiologic equipment to produce high-quality diagnostic images.Selects appropriate technical factors (kVp, mAs, exposure time, focal spot, SID) for optimal image quality and minimal radiation dose.Performs quality control checks on equipment as required.Utilizes Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS) and Radiology Information Systems (RIS) for image acquisition, archiving, and patient information management.Assists radiologists or physicians during fluoroscopic procedures or other advanced examinations.Maintains accurate patient records and ensures proper labeling and documentation of images.Technical & Professional Standards:Adheres to all departmental policies, procedures, and safety regulations.Complies with state and federal radiation safety standards (e.g., ALARA principles).Participates in quality assurance and continuous improvement activities.Maintains professional demeanor and effective working relationships with patients, physicians, and colleagues.Stays current with advances in radiologic technology and practices through continuing education.Equipment Maintenance:Performs routine checks and troubleshooting of imaging equipment.Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel for repair.Ensures adequate supply levels within the imaging suite. Job Requirements Graduation from a hospital-based or college-based radiology programWashington State Certification for Radiologic Technologist and a certificate from the American Registry of Radiological Technology (ARRT) as well as current registration with ARRTCurrent certification in Vascular Interventional Radiology or successful completion of certification within one (1) year of hire; and current CPR validationCompletion of twenty-four (24) Category "A" continuing education (CE) within a two (2) year periodCritical thinking skills; quality assurance assessment skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skillsThe ability to work with highly technical equipment; extensive product knowledge; a thorough understanding of sterile techniqueAbility to achieve hemostasis following the removal of arterial/venous cathetersPlease be advised that this location requires quarterly American Heart Association (AHA) Resuscitation Quality Improvement (RQI) competency certification post-hire. This ongoing competency is required through resources internal to the facility; outside RQI competency resources are not acceptable for CommonSpirit Health compliance requirements.Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certificationOne (1) year experience in Interventional Radiology Preffered: Two (2) years of experience in Interventional Radiology Virginia Mason offers much more than competitive compensation and benefits.
