Customs Brokerage Specialist

Job Overview To provide customers with the highest quality service by providing consistent customer service and resolution in order to ensure timely release and/or inbound or outbound movement of freight/cargo. Responsibilities Provide and ensure a high level of customer service by developing and maintaining strong relationships with customers' front line personnel in the various operating divisions and subsidiaries. Prepare, analyze, and submit documentation to the appropriate parties (U.S. Customs, agents, clients) to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations relating to customs and transportation. Anticipate, identify, and resolve problems that could delay the timely release or movement of freight. Maintain relationships with correspondent brokers, T&B, and other service providers to ensure that agents exceed the customers' service requirements. Resolve banking and letter of credit problems; advise customers on payment terms; resolve billing issues and ensure invoicing and vendor payments are accurate. Complete accurate data input or corrections into computer files. Obtain payment on delinquent accounts and/or complete accounting adjustment forms for review. For transportation customer service representatives: develop rates and/or provide quotes for the movement of freight, research and negotiate carrier rates, resolve billing issues, and coordinate post-entry activity on the customer's behalf. Qualifications High school diploma or GED. Proficient computer skills. Strong customer service, organizational and communication (written and oral) skills. Strong knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and other federal regulations and requirements with respect to a specific area of expertise (CHB, air transport, ocean transport, surface transport) as applicable. CHB: Proficient in HTS classification and familiar with the harmonized tariff system. Air transport: Knowledge of Department of Commerce and Treasury regulations such as export licensing and scheduleB tariff classifications, banking requirements for international trade, regulations regarding dangerous goods shipping, and foreign regulations. Ocean transport: Knowledge of BSA, ICC400/500/322, hazardous materials, the Shipping Act of 1984, plant quarantine, USDA regulations, SGS and other independent surveyor and tariff requirements. Surface transport: Knowledge of import/export regulations and DOT. Basic math skills for conversions to metric and currency evaluations. One and a half (1 ½) years of work/field experience preferred. Preferred Qualifications 12 months of brokerage or transportation experience and/or customer service experience. Experience with MS Office, Outlook, and office equipment (phone, fax, photocopier, printer, scanner). Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Organizational and interpersonal skills. Problem‑solving skills. Ability to handle a high volume of work and time‑sensitive tasks independently with minimal supervision. Detail oriented. Knowledge of HTS classification and familiarity with the harmonized tariff system. Knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and other federal regulations and requirements with respect to the specific area of expertise. Paid training provided. Pay and Benefits Pay Transparency: This compensation range is a reasonable estimate of the current starting salary range for this role across all potential locations. The actual starting pay would be determined by experience, market level, and location. Employees may be eligible for additional pay, premiums, or bonus potential.
