Project Engineer

Project EngineerA well-established mechanical contractor is seeking a Project Engineer to support commercial HVAC and plumbing construction projects from preconstruction through closeout. This role works closely with the Project Manager, field teams, engineering, detailing, vendors, and subcontractors to help keep projects organized, documented, and moving according to schedule.The position is designed as a development role with increasing responsibility based on experience and performance. As the Project Engineer masters core project management responsibilities, there is a clear path into an Assistant Project Manager position.Key ResponsibilitiesBuild and maintain product submittal packages based on project specificationsCoordinate with engineering and detailing teams on shop drawings, as-builts, O&M manuals, commissioning reports, RFIs, and change ordersRequest and compare pricing for fixtures, equipment, and major material purchasesSolicit subcontractor and consultant quotes and support vendor selection with the Project ManagerPrepare subcontractor agreements for Project Manager review and approvalConduct routine site visits to verify installation against approved drawings and specificationsTrack installed, tested, and completed work in the fieldAttend preconstruction startup meetingsParticipate in QA/QC, startup, and commissioning meetingsMaintain RFIs, change estimates, transmittals, and project logsProcess change orders and maintain accurate project recordsCommunicate potential delays, cost overruns, safety concerns, or design issues to project leadershipSupport other project team members as needed to keep projects moving successfullyQualifications0–5 years of experience in mechanical construction or related tradesExperience with HVAC, plumbing, or mechanical systems preferredBachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management preferredStrong organizational and communication skillsAbility to manage changing priorities and work in a fast-paced environmentComfortable working both in the office and on active construction sitesAbility to read and understand construction drawings and specificationsInterest in developing long-term project management skills within mechanical constructionSkills You'll DevelopHVAC and plumbing design fundamentalsEstimating and change-order pricingConstruction schedulingPurchasing and procurementProject financials, projections, and cash flowQA/QC and commissioning coordinationSubcontractor and vendor managementField installation and construction sequencingSoftware ExperienceExperience with the following is helpful but not required:Microsoft Excel and WordMicrosoft ProjectBluebeamProcoreBIM 360RakenViewpointTexturaCADD-ESTCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive salary based on experienceMedical, dental, and vision insurance401(k)Paid holidays and PTOLong-term career growthClear advancement path into Assistant Project Manager and Project Manager rolesHands-on exposure to both field and office operations
