Waste Treatment Technician

Pay Rate ##### Primary Functions:

• Must hold Class 3 industrial wastewater operator certificate
• Operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot the wastewater treatment facility and its processes.
• Add and maintain chemical addition systems and adjust as necessary to maintain wastewater system operation within specified parameters
• Maintain effluent to meet regulatory permit requirements, perform maintenance, maintain supply and part inventory, perform some chemical analysis
• Perform all aspects of sampling, monitoring, and testing required to maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations governing the wastewater treatment process and land application management.
• Handle, accumulate and coordinate sludge and hazardous waste material storage and disposal according with federal, state, and local regulations
• Advise of the status of wastewater treatment equipment and systems
• Maintain equipment and area cleanliness to ensure compliance with all GMP
• Tend to and operate a variety of machines and equipment necessary for the job, including driving a forklift
• Learn and monitor all OSHA and EPA requirements, which apply to these process areas to achieve 100% compliance and perform related duties
• Perform daily inspections of the wastewater treatment process and periodic inspections of wastewater operations
• Perform monthly inspection of the hazardous waste storage area and satellite accumulation areas
• Collects hazardous waste across campus
• May be requested to work overtime and weekends
• Perform all work according to Occupational Safety and Health Act regulations

Basic Qualifications:

• 5 years' experience as a Waste Treatment Operator
• High school diploma or GED

Position Criteria:

• Basic knowledge of federal and state rules governing wastewater discharges and industrial safety.
• Basic knowledge and experience in operating a wastewater treatment facility.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Basic algebra skills

Preferred Qualifications:

• RCRA and HazMat DOT training
• Basic knowledge and experience in a laboratory testing environment.
• Completed course in electroplating and surface finishing technology from The American Electroplaters Society
