Job Title: Registered Nurse - Med/Surg Profession: RN Specialty: Med/Surg Duration: 8 weeks Shift: Night Shift Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Preferred experience in acute care facility License: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state of practice Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Must-Have: EPIC experience Description: The registered professional nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for a group of patients for a designated shift. Nursing care is prescribed based on the nursing process that aligns with the medical plan of care and incorporates input from the patient and significant others. The nurse collaborates with physicians and other members of the healthcare team to coordinate the delivery of patient care to patients of varying ages. The role includes teaching and discharge planning needs as part of the overall plan of care. Certain aspects of patient care delivery are delegated to other nursing staff based on their clinical competence and legal scope of practice. Utilization of the nursing process is essential to assess patients, design and implement individualized plans of care, and evaluate the effectiveness of the plans. The nurse modifies plans as necessary, considering age-specific and cultural needs of patients. Collaboration with other disciplines to formulate patient care plans is important. Knowledge of illnesses, injuries, diseases, and developmental stages is applied in providing patient care. Pharmacology knowledge is utilized when preparing and administering medications and IV therapy. Patient and family education is provided during all phases of care to promote cooperation and compliance. The nurse assesses knowledge, plans appropriate learning activities, and evaluates effectiveness through feedback from patients and families. The nurse responds to emergency patient situations following established protocols and remains calm while informing appropriate personnel. Oversight of the delivery of patient care is essential, and any errors must be challenged or corrected to ensure patient safety. Observations, reactions, and problems regarding patients must be reported to appropriate personnel in a timely manner. Demonstrating accountability for problem-solving and clinical decision-making on the assigned shift is vital. Continuity of care is ensured by promptly processing and following through on physician orders and treatment plans. The ability to prioritize patient care and respond to changes in workload is necessary. Acting as a patient advocate to ensure rights are preserved is critical. Knowledge of job descriptions and appropriate delegation based on clinical competence is required. Responsibility for actions and decisions is expected. The nurse practices according to the Nurse Practice Act and maintains awareness of professional responsibilities. Effective communication with patients, families, staff, and physicians is essential. Documentation of assessments, nursing interventions, and care provided is required. Technical aspects of patient care are performed according to established policies with attention to detail and patient comfort. Medications and IVs are administered with consideration of age-specific needs. Emergency procedures such as CPR and patient response assessment are part of the role. The nurse demonstrates safe use of medical equipment and performs other job-related duties as assigned. All employees are required to receive necessary vaccinations as a condition of employment.
