Software Development Manager, Application Platform

Salary: $110,000 - 150,000 per year Requirements:

• We need 3+ years of engineering team management experience
• We need 7+ years of direct experience working within engineering teams
• We need 3+ years of experience designing or architecting new and existing systems, including design patterns, reliability, and scaling
• We need 8+ years of experience leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services
• We need strong knowledge of engineering practices and patterns across the full software, hardware, and networks development lifecycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and live site operations
• We need experience partnering with product or program management teams
• Preferred: experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to gather requirements, explain software features, technical designs, and product strategy
• Preferred: experience recruiting, hiring, mentoring, coaching, and managing Software Engineers to strengthen their skills and effectiveness

• We lead the end-to-end deployment and host runtime experience for our platform services
• We manage Tier-1 services including Apollo, in-place host patching through Quilt, provisioning and scaling via Apollo Cloud Control, host and hostclass management, and custom AMI baking solutions
• We own DJS and related tooling that removes builder toil so engineers can focus on customer and business outcomes
• We provide safe, scalable paths from post-build artifacts to reliable production deployments for both developers and automated systems
• We design for Amazon-scale while keeping our tools easy to use correctly and safe for automated agents
• We work to improve builder velocity, lower operational risk, scale automation safely, and increase the value of existing tooling investments
• We collaborate across Amazon and AWS to reduce builder toil at the lowest cost
• We help drive bold ideas forward and own them through completion
