Substance Abuse Counselor

Company Description Lighthouse Treatment Centers of Georgia (LTC) is an outpatient opioid treatment center located in Ellijay, GA, dedicated to supporting individuals on their recovery journey. The center operates as a beacon of hope in the community, offering compassionate, evidence-based care for substance use disorders. Role Description The Substance Abuse Counselor is a full-time, on-site role based at our Ellijay, GA location. In this position, the counselor conducts individual and group counseling sessions, facilitates psychoeducational groups, and supports clients in developing coping strategies and recovery skills. Responsibilities include completing assessments, creating and updating individualized treatment plans, documenting progress notes, and coordinating care with medical and administrative staff. The counselor works closely with clients to address opioid use and co-occurring concerns, provides relapse prevention education, and engages in regular case reviews. The role also involves maintaining regulatory compliance, participating in team meetings, and contributing to a safe, respectful, and recovery-focused clinic environment. Qualifications Strong knowledge of Chemical Dependency and Relapse Prevention to support clients in understanding addiction and maintaining long-term recovery. Experience working with addiction concerns, including assessment, referral, and coordination of care for co-occurring disorders preferred Relevant certification or licensure as a Substance Abuse Counselor (or eligibility to obtain), in accordance with Georgia state requirements. Preferred bachelor’s or master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related behavioral health field. Effective communication, active listening, and documentation skills, with the ability to build rapport across diverse populations. Ability to work collaboratively with an interdisciplinary team and maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards.
