Software Engineer Intern - Summer 2027

At Netflix, our mission is to entertain the world. Together, we are writing the next episode - pushing the boundaries of storytelling, global fandom and making the unimaginable a reality. We are a dream team obsessed with the uncomfortable excitement of discovering what happens when you merge creativity, intuition and cutting-edge technology. Come be a part of what's next.

Who are we?

Netflix is the world's leading streaming entertainment service with over 300 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, documentaries, feature films, and mobile games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can watch as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, on any internet-connected screen. It's no secret that we want to entertain the world. To do that, we build teams with a mix of experience and fresh perspective. Emerging talent plays a big part in that, bringing new ideas that push us to keep growing.

If you have a passion for solving challenging problems, we want to hear from you. Maybe you love learning how to build scalable, robust systems. Maybe you thrive working with the latest technologies in a dynamic environment where priorities evolve and ideas move quickly. And maybe the idea of making a global impact on software that over 300 million people use and love gets you fired up. If that sounds like you, we want to see your application!

Who are you?

• You're a current, enrolled student pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a technical field such as Computer Science, Engineering, Math, or Statistics, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and Spring/Summer 2028. Minored in a technical field, or majoring in something non-technical while teaching yourself to code? We still want you to apply!
• You've studied coursework or have relevant experience with data structures, algorithms, and debugging. Bonus points if you've completed at least one of these courses: Distributed Systems, Web Development, Mobile Development, Network or Application Security, Machine Learning, or AI.
• You're eager to leverage AI to amplify your work. You use it to explore ideas, move faster, and sharpen your thinking, and you validate outputs before you trust them.
• You love exploring new solutions, and you're willing to break things along the way to learn.
• You make confident decisions that are well thought out, and you're willing to share your ideas and perspectives.
• You can work independently, and you know that asking a teammate for a fresh perspective is a strength, not a weakness.
• You do your best work alongside others and enjoy building as a team. You're curious about how different people see a problem, and you let those ideas shape what you create.
• You're a clear, concise communicator who tells a good story and tailors it to your audience.
• You're passionate about Netflix's mission to Entertain the World, and you believe you can thrive in our culture.

What could you learn to do?

• Build applications that solve complex business problems elegantly
• Create tools that are intuitive, engaging, and surface business insights for our partners
• Write high-quality, performant, industry-standard code
• Integrate scalable system design and architectural best practices into the development lifecycle
• Use AI tools to move faster on scoped engineering work, like understanding unfamiliar code, brainstorming approaches, drafting tests, and improving documentation
• Build good judgment about AI: validating its output, spotting when it's wrong or overconfident, and handling privacy and security responsibly
• Work closely with business stakeholders in a dynamic, fast-moving environment

Don't meet every single requirement? That's okay! If you're excited about this role, but your experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be the right candidate for this or other roles.

Candidates with significant relevant work experience may not be considered. While prior internships are okay, we may not consider candidates with multiple years of relevant work experience.

Internships at Netflix

At Netflix, we offer a personalized experience for interns, and our aim is to offer an experience that mimics what it is like to actually work here. We match qualified interns with projects and groups based on interests and skill sets, and fully embed interns within those groups for the summer. Netflix is a unique place to work and we live by our values, so it's worth learning more about our culture.

Internships are paid and are a minimum of 12 weeks, with a choice of a few fixed start dates in May or June 2027 to accommodate varying school calendars. Our summer internships will be located in our Los Gatos, CA office, or in our Los Angeles, CA office, depending on the team.

At Netflix, we carefully consider a wide range of compensation factors to determine the Intern top of market. We rely on market indicators to determine compensation and consider your specific job, skills, and experience to get it right. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary and will also be dependent on your location. The overall market range for Netflix Internships is typically $40/hour - $110/hour. This market range is based on total compensation (vs. only base salary), which is in line with our compensation philosophy.
