Surgical Technologist

Job Title: Surgical Technologist Purpose of Position: Assists in a variety of surgical procedures under the direct supervision of the surgeon, anesthesiologist/CRNA, and the professional registered nurse. Responsibilities Must be courteous to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and other employees. Demonstrates good technical knowledge of the surgical environment, infection control, sterility, and uses it to assist RN and surgeon. Prepares operating room by setting up instruments, equipment, sterile drapes, and solutions. Maintains a sterile environment per hospital policy and AORN Standards of Care. Performs scrub technician functions for all services and specialties. Assembles sterile and non‑sterile equipment and adjusts as necessary to ensure proper working condition. During surgery passes instruments and sterile supplies to surgeon and assistants. Holds retractors, cuts sutures, helps count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments. Prepares, cares for, and disposes of specimens taken for laboratory analysis. Assists in applying surgical dressings. Ensures availability of surgeon and case‑specific instrumentation per protocol and preference cards. Assists in transporting patients to the OR and positions them on the OR table. Understands and uses appropriate sterilization methods for equipment. Understands specific use and functioning of supplies and equipment used in procedures. May operate sterilizers, lights, suction, and diagnostic equipment. Under direction of surgeon and RN, accurately and safely prepares and labels medications during the surgical procedure. Assists in transferring patients to the recovery area. May assist in turnover and restocking OR for next procedure. Respects patient privacy, dignity, and safety. Provides a safe environment for surgical patients. Assumes responsibility for orientation of new OR employees as needed. Understands importance of teamwork, consideration, and cooperation. Works with RN to update and maintain equipment and instrumentation of specialty services. Participates in unit staff meetings, in‑service programs, and educational programs related to career development. Performs other work‑related duties as assigned by supervisor. Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers, and co‑workers. Qualifications Graduate of a Surgical Technology course. Certification preferred. Must read, write, speak, and understand English. Schedule Details 64PP (32 hours per week); rotating days/evenings 7 a.m.–3 p.m., 10 a.m.–6 p.m.; occasional weekends & rotating holidays. On‑call (on‑site within 30 minutes) coverage required (Mon‑Fri 6 p.m.–7 a.m., Sat 7 a.m.–7 a.m., Sun 7 a.m.–8 a.m., & rotating holidays). Location Falmouth Hospital Association, Massachusetts—Falmouth. Department: FHA‑Operating Room. Compensation Hourly: $21.54 – $42.09. Pay range reflects anticipated range for new hires; actual compensation will be determined after considering work history, experience, skill set, and education.
