Parent Resource Center Specialist (SBO) Starting Date: Jul 27, 2026 Job Description Summary: This position is solely responsible for the operation and management of the Parent Resource Center (PRC), which promotes awareness of the services provided by Frederick County Public Schools for students with disabilities and their families. This includes encouraging parent participation in the educational decision‑making process, coordinating seminars and training programs, and providing information to foster the parent/professional partnership. This position also facilitates the PRC’s service as a resource for educators and the community. Qualifications Must hold a Virginia Teacher License with an Endorsement in Special Education Minimum of 5 years of special education teaching experience. Must possess knowledge of the Regulations Governing Special Education Programs for Students with Disabilities in Virginia to develop and present general training workshops. Must possess knowledge of standard office procedures, practices, equipment, and clerical techniques. Must possess the ability to greet and build relationships with parents and the general public to respond to their needs. Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills. Essential Duties Essential duties are interpreted as being descriptive and not restrictive in nature. Other duties may be assigned. Ensure parents are informed of their rights and responsibilities related to the special education processes outlined in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Improvement Act (IDEA2004) and the Regulations Governing Special Education Programs for Children with Disabilities in Virginia and, as such, have a direct impact on increasing outcomes for students with disabilities. Serve as a source of information and referral regarding state and federal laws and regulations governing special education. Provide information and support to parents of students with disabilities to help them understand and navigate the special education process. Assist parents in developing strategies and informal options to address issues and concerns. Promote collaboration and positive communication between parents and school division personnel in addressing special education issues. Develop and present scheduled workshops for parents, educators, and other interested parties based on community‑assessed needs. Serve as a resource for disability‑related information and referrals to available programs and services for individuals with disabilities. Serve on the Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC). Serve as a representative in local and state activities designed for Parent Resource Center staff.
