Under minimal supervision, provides nursing care for a group of patients assigned to the nurse based on matching the patients’ needs with the nurse’ competencies. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.

\n \n \n JOB RESPONSIBILITIES \n

 Assesses human responses and adaptation to actual or potential health problems of the patient, family and/or significant other
\n  Institutes and initiates a plan for patient care based on the initial assessment; implements and continuously evaluates interventions; reassesses patient needs on an on-going basis
\n  Recognizes changing patient condition and utilizes unit resources, chain of command and Rapid Response Team (RRT) in a timely and appropriate manner.
\n  Assimilates and prioritizes information sources to take immediate and decisive patient-focused action
\n  Supports and maintains the physiologic stability of patients
\n  Responds with confidence and adapts to rapid changing patient conditions
\n  Documents all plans and care provided
\n  Identifies need for education of patient, family and/or significant other and provides education through individualized instruction, the use of written materials and/or other available resources
\n  Assigns nursing care to licensed staff, delegates nursing care to unlicensed staff and coordinates the flow of work
\n  Calculates and administers medications
\n  Coordinates and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members in the planning and management of patient care
\n  Responds to the unique needs of patients and families coping with unanticipated treatment, quality of life, and end-of-life decisions
\n  Monitors and allocates critical care services, recognizing the fiduciary role of nurses working in a resource intensive environment
\n  Participates in discharge planning; provides instruction to patient/family
\n  Maintains and promotes professional standards and development by participating in inservices, committees and staff meetings
\n  Serves as a role model for compassionate care and service excellence and commits to Studer Principles and “must haves”
\n  Facilitates patient movement within the department and through the facility, proactively managing patient admissions, discharges and transfers
\n  Manages patient hand-offs at shift change and between department and facilities; utilizes documentation tools for hand-offs as required
\n  Provides every patient the defined standard of care (ie; core measures, chest pain protocol)
\n  Utilizes resources efficiently and effectively
\n  Maintains safe environment
\n  Addresses patient population-specific needs
\n  Participates in Performance Improvement needs

JOB QUALIFICATIONS \n

MINIMUM EDUCATION: Graduate of accredited school of nursing.
PREFERRED EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: None
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Two years in acute care. Previous clinical nursing experience in med/surg, telemetry or ICU
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State License for Registered Nurse
PREFERRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE:
REQUIRED COURSES/COMPLETIONS (e.g., CPR):

• Must have active healthcare provider Basic Life Support on hire (ARC or AHA); however, must have AHA Healthcare Provider BLS within 60 days of hire.
\n
• AHA ACLS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (ADULT CRITICAL CARE, TELEMETRY, INTERIM CRITICAL CARE UNITS).
  *Should be completed before the end of the orientation period 
\n
• AHA PALS must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (PEDI ICU)
  *Should be completed before the end of the orientation period
\n
• AHA NRP must be completed within 60 days of hire or transfer into role (NICU).
\n
• S.T.A.B.L.E. for NICU- Level 2 Nursery-Must provide proof of prior completion or obtain within 6 months of hire or transfer date into unit (Renewal is not required).
